Hey guys did you know I'm obsessed with birds?I struggled a lot with that transition from shadow to birds and I went through multiple tries (different sizes, different bird types, etc) and I still think it doesn't look quite right, but... alas.
Pencil on toned paper. Ref: vishstudio.deviantart.com/art/… Love the ref and will probably use it a million more times.

You may have struggled with that transition a lot and it does look as if there is still some way to go with it, but you're almost there!

Have you thought about making the birds disappear behind a cloud and then blend that cloud into the shadows - sounds like a much easier transition to me.

In my opinion, the birds look about right. Like if they were coming out of a dark cloud. I don't have a trained eye, though. Sort of why I don't critique things. But in all honesty it looks wonderful.

If I could favorite this a hundred times I would
There's a mural in downtown of a little girl blowing a dandelion, and as the seeds disperse they blossom into birds. It's one of my favorite murals but the town's doing some construction in the area and plan to put a new building against that wall, hiding the mural in an alley. Looking at this is like looking at that mural, and it gives me the same warm fuzzies
