I was listening to this song the other day and got this mental image of Matoro in his final journey. I chose to illustrate the part after he puts on the mask, where his body is transformed by the Kanohi Ignika into pure life energy, sending off blinding light visible throughout Karda Nui.
Matoro was my favorite character (followed closely by Jaller and Hahli) and I was very emotional about this conclusion to his character arc. So this is a tribute to Matoro, the quiet, reserved Toa of Ice whose humility and selflessness led him to save the universe at the cost of his own life.

All the effects you see here were achieved manually in FireAlpaca by the airbrush and smudge tools, as well as various layer effects (such as Overlay and Screen). It took me roughly 4-5 hours from the initial sketch to the final version. Download for the full resolution!
