This needs a prestigious place to hang. If I had a study, I would hang it in a nice dark oak frame.
Also, it just radiates inspiration to read, to me at least. Is that weird?

Really? I'm surprised! Well he is a very talented artist (as well as a good personal friend of mine) so if you haven't gone to check out all of his work already then you should definitely do so!

Oh, thank you so very much for saying so! I was, originally, going for something like that when I started work on this I think, though some of it may have gotten lost in translation with the colors and other stylistic choices I made, I'm not sure. In any case I am very happy it gave you that impression, and I thank you for commenting! <3

Shading is a great feature in your drawings.
It makes the characters even more realistic...
You did an excellent job on the book.
Brilliant as usual, sweety Diamonds ^^

Yes, those hooves... regrettably I told myself they would do originally as I was short on time when I made this, unfortunately. But I'm glad you like the picture regardless dear! And yes, I think I prefer my other style more as well (after all, I use it most of the time) but every now and then it's fun to mix it up a bit. Thanks for the comment!

Oh.
I am really sorry to say that, but this picture looks kind of... not yours. The style is absolutely different, and yeah... macaroni hooves, and the pose, and the 'plastic' shading of hair/fur/whatever it is called, and the anatomy look... misfitting. I was surprised to see this in 'More from WD': all your art I've seen so far has been so astounding, and this one looks as unusual as Twilight's birthday dress Rarity made in Canterlot. Well, maybe it's acceptable to take limited time as an excuse for that.
I am terribly sorry once again. You're a great artist nonetheless!

I'm sorry to hear you don't like this picture at all... as I said I decided to try a different style out here just for fun (that had nothing to do with the short notice I had to make my friend's birthday deadline, though the "macaroni hooves" did; I regrettably didn't have the opportunity to fix what I realized were obvious mistakes there). I personally really enjoyed making this and actually, like the style enough that I intend to utilize it again at some point in the future... sorry in advance for disappointing you in that regard! ^_~

I do appreciate that, even if I feel somewhat bad that you don't care for this particular style when I know I'm planning on doing more with it eventually (since, as I said I personally like it). But, as you say tastes differ, and it's not as if there won't be plenty more of my other art forthcoming at some point in the future.
Thanks again~!

Ah, don't feel bad! Now I feel guilty for saying what I've said . I see, it's usually accustomed to either comment someone's art with good words or not comment at all (or troll, but that's not my style). I love your art and I love to leave you positive comments about this and that drawing of yours, but I also care about being equally honest within everything I write. Now I regret I said I didn't like this particular art, because it made you feel bad, what you definitely don't deserve
Concerning the style, I never said you shouldn't do more of these. I am looking forward to your new pictures with any style adopted, let it even be cubism or art nouveau. And hey, you're still doing much better than any of my favorite musicians - they usually have one or two compositions per album I find listenable, whereas there's a single picture of yours I don't like in all your plentiful art collection! Besides, I see a lot of people actually liking this picture. It's always an artist's burden to hear and read mixed feedback but stay cool, confident and awesome. So I sincerely wish you that! ^_^

Don't feel guilty, it was a perfectly valid opinion! Most people seemed to like this style, but I imagine you're not the only person who didn't... as you said and as I already know it takes all different kinds (and you're so funny about the musician analogy, haha... that was sweet). Most of my future works will resemble past pieces I have done I'm sure, as I'm comfortable with that style and I do like it, but every now and again it if fun and enjoyable to mix up techniques just as a personal challenge and growing experience, I suppose.
I will certainly do my best with that, anyway. Thank you again!

Thank you very much! As stated in my initial remarks I used a different technique and method of shading when I made this picture, and Twilight's bizarrely hollow hooves aside I actually rather like the results. I'm sorry if it took a while to load for you, but I'm so happy you like it and thank you again for the kind comments!

My apologies for the belated reply; I'm afraid I've been quite busy lately. I actually use SAI's default brushes only, at all of the default settings, and normally set to bristle though I'll use simple circle or flat bristle settings on occasion (the latter wasn't used on this piece though, and I don't recall if I used the former or not).

Wait.....howbis the book floating if Twilight isn't using magic at all?
π: 0 β©: 1
WhiteDiamondsLtd In reply to HNNNNNGHHH [2012-05-05 04:07:52 +0000 UTC]
Well for that matter, how is Twilight floating? As I said in my comments I unfortunately didn't have a lot of time to work on this picture, and as such made a simple splash background. Twilight isn't in a "real" setting here; it's not meant to have any meaning beyond what you see, I'm afraid.

Macaroni hooves, oh my gosh. XD It's a perennial problem everyone hasβhow to portray the undersides of their hooves! With a sharp edge, or continuous; with a large depth, or barely concave at all? Personally, they're a tad dark here for my taste, but like I said, everyone differs here, heh.
This is a beautiful shading style, but what I think actually shines the most is theβ¦well, un-shined hair. It's almost flat, but with a very slight gradient from tip to end. I love it.

I'm not sure about that, but thank you so very much for the kind words and I'm glad that you like Twilight here! And "antigravitional", haha! It's more like I didn't really have time to do a proper background, and so went with a simple color splash, but I'm very happy that you like the end result all the same, thank you for that my friend! ^.^
