Description EDIT: you get 4 more days to finish! read the bottom for details. Flats included!

This was posted as a $1 patron and up challenge on Patreon, that means everybody on there. Usually you have to pledge $10+ to get the files flatted for practice like this.  The winner of the challenge will get a special one time only reward which is gonna be a surprise and something that is a major win!

The contest could be open to you guys also, if you subscribe for just one month you can enter and get the special reward! That means a $1 entry fee, I suppose.

The challenge is based on a 5 part lesson on "what it means to be a colorist", and contains the high res flatted file to color for the contest.  There is a 5 part series of posts to follow for examples of the bullet points of the challenge posted to the page.

The major points of the challenge are to:

  •  Add shape to my very open lines here, make sure you pay attention to the "planes" that are indicated, and try to fill in the shapes you can see.
  • Add some special effects like glows, but also think of things like splatter, stars, or anything you think that could fit, be inventive!
  • Try and paint a scene in the background, if you can! >  Add a mood and place for her, remember, she is floating on a blank canvas right now! A bunch of yous guys dont usually add full backgrounds, but this is a step in the right direction for sure if you can challenge yourself to add a scene rather than a texture (which I didnt even do in my version). Feel free to also get rid of the sun/ or moon behind her if it conflicts with something you have in mind!
  •  Test yourself also on painting over the lines for the wing blades, dont use the character or my version of the final cover. Imagine your editor told you to make the blades very soft and show no lines, without erasing them, give them a more interesting shape than I drew.
  •  Finally, pretend that the Editor also told you to take out the arm holding the fabric, and make it go behind the cloth instead and show a silhouette through the fabric. TIP: Erase the arm lines or paint over it, use the flats to make the silhouette. You're going to find a problem with this, something I didnt point out. Find that problem and solve it. no hints!

And dont use my original final version for inspiration, I want to see something new.

I bought it here on Deviantart, but how would I submit it to you? Notes, email, comment here?

I love the concept for this, but this is way beyond my skill level for coloring.  I'm a hobbyist, not a professional.  Still, good info

yeah, its mainly to challenge those trying to push themselves to get better, or those who want to. hobby art is what it is, personal and for fun. I get it no worries

its mainly though for people who want to eventually work as a professional

Yeah that's definitely not me.  I'm a greedy bastard and there is not enough money in that profession except for like .001% of the artists out there.
