Description she does nothing but dream,

dream a little very day

die a little every day

for she cannot ever have what she dreams for.

one day she's foolish, takes a chance

tries to make her dreams come true

she feels the sun on her face

the wind in her hair

brushing by her so swiftly

her body falls but her soul is flying.

this is a personal piece, personal to me in a few small ways, nothing major. we all wish we could fly, but few of us are foolish enough to pursue those dreams. this is in no way supposed to be a interpretation or the Icarus tale.

i set out to try and outpaint myself. a few of you guys have been saying well, this piece is your best yet or that one is, yet every single one was drawn by somebody else. it was driving me nuts!

i gave this piece my all, lots of ref used but not in the places you'd expect, made sure i took my time and spent plenty on it too.

the idea of the long canvas here is to guide the eye down, especially here on dA where it requires you to scroll down, my intentions were that you get a sense of how far she fell.

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

I think this is definitely your best piece to date (it's nice to see an artist get better and better with each piece) I'll dothis critique according to the ratings here=]

I think the vision of this is extremely clear. It's a Great image from colors to composition, and it is a nice adaptation of Icarus' tale=] Ther's no question about that, but with a lead female as the main character.

I didn't give this the highest in regard to originality because it seems to come from the Icarus tale, but the angel and charib are a really nice touch with the star halo above the male, which helps to make this your own.

The anatomy is pretty spot on! You've gotten much better with it here. Two things glare out at me though which are easily fixed. First is the brush stroke you have on the fourth and fifth major cloud formation. Everything else seems pretty nicely blended, but for some reason it is very obvious and not as soft as you usually do..... The second thing is the left pectoral. It's flowing under the arm and should be in line with the right pec. The shoulder and the pec muscles flow into each other and the way you drew it is as if it connects with the back under the arm somehow. I think with these two things fixed this would basically be a perfect image technique wise.....

With regards to impact, I think the long composition take away from that impact, which isn't bad. I don't think the impact was meant to be high here. If there was a desire to strengthen it, maybe pushing the idea of Icarus more and adding some modern images to it, i.e. a high rise building instead of a cliff, would help to push this image further in regards to impact.

I think this is a great image, could be better as with most things, but is damn good and I enjoyed viewing it. Thanks for posting=]

well it's not meant to be an icarus type idea, as she makes her own wings.

but the part where you get into putting in buildings and such, definitely WAY off from what i was going for, but definitely a fair critique, i just disagree with alot of it due to conflicts in vision for the piece.

I only mentioned that if you wanted to increase the "impact' factor of the piece ( it's a weird rating). Does her making her own wings make it not inspired by the Icarus story? I figured since the wings are manufactured, and fail, the two stories at the very least have a visual parallel. (Hope i am not analyzing too much, I tend to do that sometimes.....)

well the canvas is long because it gives you a sense of the high cliff, just how high it is and just how far she fell, to me it adds to the impact. it's meant to be more of an old world feel, so buildings go against that.

Hey Nei,

I actually bought a print of this from you at Pop Culture Paradise in Arizona this past weekend. My fiance loved it just as much as I thought she would. Oh, and thank you for the Black Widow sketch.

I love the bright colors of this and how well the contrast the melancholy the viewer feels for the fallen woman. I also like the comfort on the seraphim's face as he's hovering above her. She may have made many foolish mistakes, this one potentially costing her life, but the Heavens are willing to forgive her and continue to comfort and watch over her.

I really love the details, especially how they increase the further down you scroll @@

I've always had trouble myself with rocks, so I'm also super impressed by the cliff face in the background XD

Love the golden sunlight streaming through the clouds- ironic it's a pretty day for something so tragic!

The wings on the angel are incredible as well o.o They look so soft and vivid, much like the poor woman's skin

i had pretty much just learned a method for rocks myself and always had trouble with them, the key for me was to make my brush the flat like a palette knife, or a calligraphy pen.
