Okay, anthros are not usually my thing, but this is absolutely gorgeous. Love your line quality, the flow of the different elements between figure, staff, and banner, and the understated but well designed costume elements. really really wow.

Thanks. Unfortunately i think the base is the style that randomly developed in two decades, but i do whip out my reference photo folder/Google search after i've sketched a thing. Not before i sketched a thing because i don't want photos to influence my decisions that early. The commissioner wanted a siberian tiger so i looked at photos of those.

I look at organic material in a bit more geometric/sculpture-like way than natural, probably. Sorry if it's not very helpful, i don't know what to say.

No this is just fine, I understand what you mean perfectly! I usually have to draw more fantasy styled feet for characters but the paws are always up to interpretation so I can't find good examples most of the time. It's more or less how people (and you) draw the knuckles on the toes and it's aesthetically pleasing!
