That's the go.. So you took a laptop to dump your SD cards onto?

Oh! I meant to tell you.. or maybe I did..
I got a X64, 12GB RAM, Intel i7 CPU and it rocks!

Nope have a 16GB and a 32GB SD Card so I didn't have any space issues

WOW that's awesome! Sounds super powerful! Core i7 is awesome! My little lappy have and i7 720 which is pretty cool

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dizzyatdizumnl In reply to WiDoWm4k3r [2011-02-04 00:44:58 +0000 UTC]

Were you shooting RAW or JPG?

That sounds like a FAST lappy!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WiDoWm4k3r In reply to Dizzyatdizumnl [2011-02-04 01:09:46 +0000 UTC]

Always RAW, I sue Pentax, they have definitely improved lately, but Pentax shooters should always shoot in RAW because the Cant Compress JPEG too well and kill a lot of colour info. RAW on my little camera however contain the same level of info than the D90 which costs 2X more lol.

It's OK I'd love to get a new Sandy Bridge Laptop though, have to wait for intel to fix the chipsets.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dizzyatdizumnl In reply to WiDoWm4k3r [2011-02-04 01:30:13 +0000 UTC]

I've taken to shoot both RAW and JPG for everything. If I shoot just JPG
on a particular subject that I think isn't all that important, sure as
hell I'll want to do something to them and I can't!

Pentax have always been up there in quality. My second camera was a Pentax
and I loved it

What's wrong with the Intel chipsets?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WiDoWm4k3r In reply to Dizzyatdizumnl [2011-02-04 03:24:53 +0000 UTC]

I love Pentax, they make amazing litttle cameras for there price, plus I can say I'm not a Canikon Fanboy too Hahaha!

Well intel have released a new Processor architecture called Sandy Bridge for the core i7 i5 or i3. The Processors themselves are fine but on the motherboards there is something called a chipset, witch is another processor but its used to control things like the Keyboard of the HDD's for instance, the new chipsets for the new sandy bridge processors are having problems with the SATA controller Die that causes the Read\Write of SATA devices to dramatically slow down over time due to a silicon degeneration issue. They are Currently recalling the chipsets P67 & H67 which are used in Desktop PC motherboards. If you have a pre sandybridge CPU likce an i7 920 or anything like that, you're all good

Dizzyatdizumnl In reply to WiDoWm4k3r [2011-02-04 03:58:02 +0000 UTC]

I started with a Fujica (forget the model) film SLR. I think it had a choice of 3
or 4 lenses. It was targeted at the beginner market but took some nice pictures.

That's an expensive recall for Intel. Doesn't do their image much good either,
unless they can pass the buck Mine is an 870@2.93GHz so I guess I'm safe.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WiDoWm4k3r In reply to Dizzyatdizumnl [2011-02-05 16:05:41 +0000 UTC]

That would have been cool to shoot with, film is still pretty amazing quality these days.

Yeah I still dont recon it'll help AMD any more haha, they are kepping it pretty hush hush, most people will never know so only nerds like me will know haha.

And Yup the 870 is safe

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dizzyatdizumnl In reply to WiDoWm4k3r [2011-02-06 00:55:22 +0000 UTC]

I had a Mamiya for a while. 2 1/4 square is a fantastic image size.. beautiful
resolution. Couldn't afford to run it though and it started to develop shutter
problems that would have cost big bucks to fix. Shame as it was a great camera
to use.

I'm glad the 870 is safe *whew* I've got 2 terabyte drives in an RAID array and
one mirrors the other. Given where I live and who's around, I'd like to encrypt
the main drive. If I did would the mirror drive be encrypted too? Logically I
thought it would but is that the case?

WiDoWm4k3r In reply to Dizzyatdizumnl [2011-02-06 23:23:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah thats a shame, the some of the Phase One cameras that cost $20,000 use Mamiya Optics and Photo Capture mechinisms, they are like 60MPx or something crazy like that.

Yeah RAID 1 is Mirrored, So anything you do to one it will do to the other real-time.
A good idea for if you think people are going to do anything to your computer is use special screws with hard to find screw heads, like Torx screws but maybe that next level, it's what people at LAN parties use, they also use kingsington locks if they have laptops but I'm not sure if PC cases have the little slot for those.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dizzyatdizumnl In reply to WiDoWm4k3r [2011-02-07 01:11:23 +0000 UTC]

I somehow couldn't justify paying $20,000 for a camera..
it would be very nice though

Ok, that's good about RAID 1. Torx would be excellent!
I'll have a look for them since physical security isn't
real good here. Kensington locks might be a go. I'll
have a look and see if there's a slot

Thanks!

Pentax do a Medium Format Camera for $12k it's called the 645D, looks pretty awesome! No need for zoom either lenses because it's digital zoom will easily do the trick haha.

Any time! I am in I.T so I try help as much as possible

The Pentax sounds good! At $12K it's only $12K above my budget!

I appreciate your advice. I'm on the hunt for the Torx!
