Description The Himalayan Griffon Vulture (Gyps himalayensis) is an Old World vulture in the family Accipitridae, which also includes eagles, kites, buzzards and hawks. It is closely related to the European Griffon Vulture, G. fulvus.

Adults average 106 cm (42 inches) in length and 272 cm (108 inches) across the wings; they weigh 9.7 kg (21.4 lbs). They are the second largest Old World vulture, behind only the Eurasian Black Vulture in size

This is a fantastic bird portrait. The focus and lighting are perfect! I also love its expression. Vultures always seem to look so stern!

That's an interesting looking vulture and great capture.

Being scavengers, vultures usually have almost bald head and neck, but this species seems to have lots of feathers in that area, probably to keep warm in the cold regions of Himalaya. I wonder how they keep the feathers clean and insulating in nature. Maybe these feathers keep moulting very often?

I think he can stretch out his neck pretty much and so he keeps the feathers clean.
