Description
He caresses my shoulders with gentle hands
I sigh and settle back
There is little that I love more just now

I accidentally touch his leg
(He was in a fight today)
He growls at me and swipes with knives
And I step away as swiftly as I can

A new scent enters into our territory
And he is the first to know
I the second because he is instantly beside me
Murmuring his secret in my ear

With a smile and a laugh I nod
And welcome forth my student
For though he is my greatest friend
She is my treasure

He knows my pleasure is to see them get along
And so he greets her in his unique way
Ready to be friends for me
He leaves his mark on her
As he had many years ago on me

For her part she loves him at once
As eager to get to know this friend of mine
As she had been eager to get to know me
And I smile as they talk, though he speaks less than she
She receives his caresses with inhuman humility
That reminds me of another

He looks at me, sensing my sadness
At the thought of one that I had lost
And he comes to me and sits with me
And invites her to the same

In that quiet voice so like my Mida’s
She asks what could be wrong
And I smile for her and tell the truth
Nothing is wrong; everything is right

He touches my cheek in his gentle way
Wipes off the tear that had appeared there
So that she would not see it stain my face
And I give him a smile and kiss his nose just to see him twitch

And she laughs
And he laughs
And I laugh

And in our laughter I hear the laughter of another
Long gone from me but so, so near
And they see my tears just the same
But the tears are happy, not sad
Loving, not regretful
