This fire fox is not the easiest person to get to know. With little patience and a quick temper, Selene does not suffer fools. Her general grumpy attitude combined with her sarcasm is often enough for people to avoid her. She is also someone you do not want to cross as she is able to hold onto a grudge forever and can be quite spiteful. That said, Selene does have a softer side that few ever really see. She has experienced a lot of loss in her life and her anger is derived from the fear that she will lose loved ones again; so she builds walls around herself to try to protect herself from further pain while clinging tightly to those she loves. She actually can be kind, protective of those she cares about and is loyal to a fault. Selene is a bit of a paradox. She's simultaneously the most starry-eyed idealist and the bitterest of cynics. One will have to be patient and determined to make friends with her.

Selene's parents literally came from two different worlds. Her mother was a Ninetales that came from an aristocratic, traditional family in Johto that put emphasis on class, wealth and breeding. Her father, a Houndoom, came from a poor family who settled in Goldenrod City, hoping to find a better life there. The two met by chance and were instantly smitten with each other. After several months of secret letters and meetings, the two decided to run away together and elope, despite this going against everything her family stood for. They eventually carried out their plans and eloped to Unova. Once her family found out, she was instantly disowned, along with any children she might have.
Making a new life for themselves in Castelia City, the two had no regrets about their decision to be together. After a couple years, the couple added two more to their little family: Selene and Alexander. The twins grew up in a tight-knit, loving and supportive environment. Occasionally there were tough times, but the family always managed to pull through.
All of this changed when the twins were fifteen.
One night, the family was driving home from a school event when an incoming car lost control and swerved into their lane, hitting them head on. The twins were spared in the crash, but their parents had died instantly from the impact. That night would leave lasting emotional scars on both twins. Since their father had no living family left, the city reached out to their mother's family for custody of the teenagers. The reaction couldn't have been worse. The family was very adamant in their rejection of the "mongrels" and said that they had no interest in taking in the children of their estranged daughter. They didn't stop there though. They were especially nasty to Selene and essentially called her a "half-bred abomination". The vitriolic reaction cut Selene deeply and resulted in a deep loathing of her mother's family. This was the start of a drastic change in Selene's personality.
Unwanted by their only living family, the twins were sent to an orphanage. They bounced around to a couple foster homes, but were returned every time. There were also a couple instances where they were almost separated, which caused the twins to cling tighter to each other. Between the constant stress of being in the orphanage and foster care, never having properly grieved for her parents and the fear of losing her twin, Selene became more angry and withdrawn; a complete 180 from the once happy and outgoing girl she had once been. The scathing comments said to her by her mother's family also stuck with her for years, causing her to become even more angry and distrustful of anyone except Alexander.
Eventually the twins were sent to a foster family that was willing to work with them, including getting them through high school. After they had turned eighteen and had graduated, the twins were legally on their own. Sticking together, the two managed to find an apartment and worked odd jobs to make rent. Eventually the two saved up enough to attend a community college in Castelia.

Around six months ago, the twins were approached by a man who introduced himself as their uncle from their mother's side. Selene was instantly distrustful of him, but Alexander was willing to give him a chance to speak his peace. The uncle explained that he and their mother had been close growing up and revealed that he had hated the way the rest of the family had treated the twins. He couldn't do much to help them, but he wanted to give them their best chance. So, as his gift to them, he would pay for their college education with no strings attached. The stipulation was that they had to attend an Arceist school. The twins accepted his gift with some degree of wariness, with a lot of skepticism on Selene's end. After a bit of research, the two decided on Desta University in Sinnoh as it met their uncle's criteria. Packing their bags, they headed for Hearthome, silently hoping that this would be the break they needed.
