Harufu, all things considered, is the black sheep of her family; rather than seeking the spotlight, Harufu is reserved, and was actually quite shy in her early childhood. However, as time passed she grew a bit more confident and began making friends in Binah, Fumnaya, and Imani. As her confidence grew, she quickly became well known for her witty remarks and sharp tongue. She was blunt in her dealings with others, and when someone tried to tease her, she was quick to fire back with a smug smirk on her face. She may not have been the prettiest or the strongest cub, but she was quite smart, and was well known for getting into trouble with her friends and getting off scot-free. Despite her sarcastic and snarky personality, she was quite well-liked by the other cubs, and for the most part her childhood was normal.

When Kovu and Kipande's affair was discovered, it affected not just the royal family, but Harufu as well. Alama, still bitter about the death of her beloved Nuka, always spoke badly of the royal family, and encouraged her cubs to do the same. Harufu had had no reason to doubt her mother before; Alama loved and spoiled them, after all. But after seeing how the news affected her friend Binah, and the pride at large, Harufu became a bit skeptical of what her mother told her. She hadn't been particularly close to Kipande, but she'd still referred to her as an aunt, and to see her be smug about the whole ordeal didn't sit right with Harufu. As the dust began to settle, Harufu decided that from now on, she wouldn't believe things on first glance; instead, she'd remain skeptical and look into things herself instead of blindly believing others. But with skepticism came cynicism.
