Description
Eomellivora wimani, 'Wiman's Dawn Honey Eater', was a large and powerful member of the Mustelidae, the family that includes badgers, wolverines, weasels, otters and many other things. This one lived in the Late Miocene, the genus existing from 11 to 5 million years ago, a good long reign. It was rather longer-legged than its surviving relatives, the wolverines and honey badgers. It reached 50 cm at the shoulder and 35 kg in bodyweight, making it bigger than present-day land-living mustelids. It likely lived in much the same manner as badgers and wolverines. It lived in North America, Europe, Asia, and likely also Africa.
