Description
The genus Sinomegaceros included several Asian species of deer with very interesting antlers. This one, Sinomegaceros yabei, is known from Japan. A very large deer, it reached 600 kg/1320 lbs in bodyweight. There are beautiful, complete skeletons of this deer on display in museums in Tokyo and Osaka. Sinomegaceros yabei went extinct a mere 40 000 years ago, which while fairly recent, likely is before modern humans reached Japan, and they can therefore not be blamed for its extinction.
