Sitting in my dormitoryWasting time I can't afford.
Every day the same old story,
Idly surfing, rather bored.
Prob'ly should get off and study
Prob'ly should go hit the books
That quiz tomorrow could get muddy...
Consid'ring the last one I took.
"Alright," I tell myself, "Enough,"
"The past three hours have been sublime,
"But homework here gets pretty tough,
"I'll just check facebook one last time."
I hit the link, and quickly punch
The password that is solely mine.
And then I get that fateful hunch
To check and see just who's online.
There's ten or so friends listed there.
I expect they're all the same,
But then I get a sudden scare:
I view the list and see HIS name!
My breath grows short at that first glance
My cursor moves across the screen.
Should I take that daring chance
And click the little circle, green?
What if he's busy? Is he free?
Who else could he be talking to?
I'm so afraid of what he'll see
Were I to message, "How are you?"
To talk, or not to talk? I think,
Each passing second feels like years!
But before I get the chance to blink,
His name -- oh no! It dissappears!!
I took too long! Why did I wait?
I smack my forehead, shake my head
I had a chance, but was too late!
I let fear talk to me instead.
This could be the end for me.
My only chance to really shine
Could now be gone, eternally.
The stars may ne'er again align.
With a sigh, I close my eyes
Prepare to leave the web, but then:
What is this wonderful surprise?
His name is on the screen AGAIN!!
This blessed second chance I seize.
It's now or never. Here I go.
My fingers quiver on the keys
I type, hit ENTER, and...
