Description I've been volunteering at a raptor rehabilitation and education center, where they have a lovely (and quite spirited!) educational peregrine falcon named Athena. While she was on a glove, I took the opportunity to do some quick life sketches.

Falcons move a LOT. This was a great exercise in getting the shape and gesture of the bird, since she literally was constantly moving.

This is sketch page 1 of 2.

I wonder, is that rehab centre the Horizonwings Raptor Rehabilitation and Education Center? I have in my YouTube favourites a video of an unreleasable falcon in a rehab centre, also named Athena, and according to the poster's comments, she's at the centre I named above.

She is indeed! Have you seen the videos of Julian? He's amazing in his ability to mimic words.

I'm looking at them now and I'm amazed; I really can't tell whether it's the bird or a human saying those words!

Oh, it's definitely Julian! I've heard him speak, and I've been fooled on more than one occasion by him saying, "helloooo" and thinking it's one of the owners right behind me

How is it that falcons look so fast even when sitting still?

I know, right? Even when sitting there, they're still so streamlined (except when they fluff, but that's just adorable).

Hehe, you should definitely draw a fluff pose if possible. They are too cute and un-falcon-like when they do that!

Athena sometimes fluffs a tiny bit (t'would be unfitting for a falcon like her to be too fluffy) when she's on her swing.

Yes, she has a swing in her enclosure (and secretly she loves swinging on it when no one's looking :O )
