Description Sun and ice in the arctic skies create halos of light, seen nowhere else in the world. These phoenixes dwell in those frigid skies creating rings of light of their own.

Acrylic on four turkey tail feathers, with metallic gold and iridescent blue paint.

The colors are wonderful. It's amazing that you could get so many smooth, nice details into such a small area.

Wow, pretty nice done! Do you tie the feathers somehow together? It would be a shame, if they detach again. ^^'

I glue the feathers together using bookbinding glue They'd tear before they separated.

Awesome work! The colors chosen compliment the feathers really well.

Side note: Ice halos are actually visible almost everywhere. The problem is that most people don't notice them because a lot of the time you'd have to look in the direction of the sun to see them.

Are they!? That's so cool! I only thought they were seen in cold (icy) areas but it makes sense since even in warm climates, there's still ice crystals high enough up depending on atmospheric conditions.

Definitely easier to see them in a polar climates (diamond dust helps), but clouds in the cirrus family can project them, too, since they're made of ice crystals. I'm not sure where you live, but take a look around when you see cirrus or cirrostratus clouds in the sky. Sun dogs are the most common. I took this in Pennsylvania. This sun dog just happened to take up the entire cloud.

(PS- Thanks for not dismissing ice crystal optics as part of some government conspiracy theory.)
