Description
As with any portrait, this painting was rather intensive, particularly with the subject. Zaevíi are perfectly intelligent, being as they are fae, but rather detest being told to 'sit still'. After many failed attempts to encourage her to stop moving, at last I had to resort to bribery. The promise of a plate of sliced cheeses was enough to entice the Zaevii to stay still long enough to capture her likeness.Oils on panel 6X6 inches

I notice that you seem to have an affinity for the fae in your works. Where did that inspiration come from?

I've been interested in nature and the magic and powers within it for a while. The fae feel like the personification of nature, which makes them interesting to me.

Gorgeous colors, do keep practicing on perspective - one eye is a little off there. Your sense of motion in line is simply wonderful and I adore how you've done the fur and hair and braids. The nose - especially the highlights - is just perfect. It's just that one eye, which throws a touch of confusion as to the angle of the head...! I also might suggest experimenting and researching light in the eyes, I've always felt the "two spots of light" effect was better, but there are dozens of techniques for eyes.

Thanks for the suggestions! I, too, noticed there was something 'off' with the far eye, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. I was using fox faces as reference, but also adjusting the facial anatomy to this particular creature (as it's not entirely fox-like). Should the far eye be more covered by the bridge of the 'nose'? Are the eyes too close together?
And I definitely want to practice eyes more. The Zaevii's eyes are dark brown with no visible pupil, but I was going for a top shine (also used reference for the shine) to hopefully show the depth of the color. I'll play around with different types of eyes with my oil practice.
