Description Known as the 'tiger of the woods', the great horned owl has no equal in the forest. Even by the river, a bald eagle will abandon a nest it built if it finds a great horned owl has taken it over.

Beautiful painting! Its amazing that you can paint so much fine detail on something as delicate as a feather!

Didn't know that even bald eagles fear these owls. Then again, some people have an (in my opinion irrational) fear of owls.

Great horned owls are strong enough to be a very real threat to bald eagles. Their feet are more powerful, and can crush with greater strength than an eagle's. Also bald eagles tend to be less aggressive than great horned owls, and prefer to fly off rather than fight them.

Beautiful job! How long did it take you? May I ask what type of acrylics that you use? Where do you get your feathers? Do you sell them as commissions or anything?

Thanks! These feathers take me varying amounts of time. I use mostly Liquitex and Golden acrylics, and I get my feathers either from turkey hunters, or from naturally molted farm birds.  This particular painting is from a hunted bird.  And I do take feather painting commissions.

I've never used acrylics before but I will look into trying the ones you mentioned. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. You do very beautiful work. (hug)
