Alex's hands were shaking. He was going to ride without a bridle today, and he was, as always, worried. The warm breath of the Obertaurer stallion beside him calmed him...a little. Sundown seemed to have no qualms about today's practice. But Alex...poor Alex had been through the wringer, and wasn't even sure he should be on a horse at all some days. He'd had a horse fall on him, and had lost the lower part of his right leg. He managed all right with a prosthetic, but there were still days, when the phantom limb pain seared, and he could barely move, that he wished he still had all his limbs. There were days where he felt perfectly fine that he wished he wasn't disabled. Like today. But he had to push through.

Alex mounted up, feeling weird without the reins in his hands. The stallion stood by, calmly, waiting for instruction. Outside, the Irish rain let up. It would have been a great day to hack, but Alex wasn't about to go outside the arena without a bridle. Sighing softly, he clucked to the stallion, and Sundown took off at a working walk. Alex jerked slightly in the saddle. Then, he caught his balance, and moved forward with the horse.

Okay. So far, so good. The stallion wasn't known for crowhops, so Alex relaxed a bit in the saddle. Sundown could feel the rider's relaxation, and responded with a small whinny of encouragement. Alex smiled. No horse would ever replace Ahzdaya, his first Obertaurer, but the classic champagne stallion was on stall rest today, so he was getting to know his other Ober stallion a bit better.

He knew the horse well enough, but he figured he could never be too careful when it came to getting to know the other horses. After all, they had to work together, did they not?

And, Alex had a show coming up, with Sundown. So he'd better get his ass in gear, and get them on the same page.
