it cost less then 60 bucks. i think the price has gone down some. the windows seven and over update for it is free though. you still need to program to use the update however.

yes, you aren't good because you can be better, but for me to get to your level is staggering and daunting as hell. I want to get better REALLY quick, but that's not going to happen with how art works, it takes time sadly

why get to my "level" i'm merely a beginner you'd only be setting yourself back several steps. also i've said this many times to other but its never good to try to be like someone else otherwise you's just lose yourself and your original aim would have no meaning and only cause you to lose focus on improvement why not try aiming for yourself as the goal get better then your past self and keep aiming higher.

what i'm getting at is... there may be a time i become content with my self and not try to improve anymore. and that drive you feel to improve yourself will lose it's vigor . so if you ever make someone your goal use your self as that foundation and progressional stairway/road to improvement.

and yes improving takes time and lots of patience but that doesn't mean one should be unhappy about it try to enjoy it more see it as a challenge. sure there'll be tough times but it'll be well worth it as the end ((but never truly the end)) result. nothing wrong with hating ones own art, but the process of becoming "better" shouldn't be felt as something to be miserable about i mean sure it'll bring out a lot of ones emotions.. but if art were easy to master it would be far too boring. there are many examples as to why buuut i wont be getting into those

I've rambled long enough as it is anyways. XD

Not trying to copy anyone or something, but there are a good amount of people that have a certain look to their art that I like.
i'm still surprised that you call yourself a beginner, that's complete BS man. Your art has a FAR higher quality than mine, for example, IM A BEGINNER. I have little grasp for the basics and all that. If your a beginner, then I have no idea what I am.

There are a lot of people, some who are pretty popular on DA that have had the same basic style for the last few years. Yeah, they have improved, but you can TELL it's their art and not some other guys.

never said anything about copying anyone, its when you makes others your goal in general, its bound to not end all that wall some of the time. ^^ the safest bet is to make oneself the goal. is what i was getting at. XD and yes i am a beginner there are loads of basic's that i still don't know or cant do very well. time and practice they say.

i find it hard to keep the same style, because i always like to experiment so i'm bound to run into some kind of situation where someone thinks i'm stealing, one of these day. XD

Maybe not making people your goal, but it's like your saying having people for inspiration is the same thing. EVERYONE looks up to X artist and says "I want to draw like that/as good as them".

I think your more intermediate than beginner, I can't even draw the same thing you did, even if I was TRACING it.
You have a far higher skill than me, so I don't think your in the realm of beginner anymore.

winterweather In reply to alzang676 [2013-02-20 00:58:11 +0000 UTC]

hm i don't have that sort of inspiration XD unless myself count of wanting to be better then myself and trying to reach a style that suits me best compared to my previous me, even though it may have to be from scratch but that's basically it. i can kind of understand where you're going with that but i cant completely relate to it sadly.

lol well others may say i'm "this or that" level of something or other but i will always be a beginner until i learn the basic's all of them to hart so until then i will always and forever be a beginner despite what others say.
i guess.. to better put it.. because some times some people have this tendency to relate their styles/anatomy/color with others and i just cant do that personally, i can only relate to my past self and see i haven't gotten very far and how much i have left to learn which is a lot. XD

so the way i see it is we are all beginners in our own way, that "better than me" thing, i hear once in a while. lol. this is what i mean by relating to others which result in a not so good outcome because it'll sometimes serve to bring oneself down even if it can serve as a means for motivation to improve ones self. i can understand it from a certain perspective but we all have different style that we wish to attain, so styles and knowledge of anatomy even if its a certain color-scheme, aren't really the same thing. because we aren't trying to achieve the same styles/anatomy/color-scheme.
i mean the only way i can see this working is if .. lets say a group of people were studying the exact same style anatomy/color-scheme, but some of them progressed slower or faster than the other, than i guess i could kind of understand it.

i mean sure at the start, we want to emulate a certain individuals style as our own as some kind of foundation/base- (((sometimes it'll be come a crutch if we linger on it for far to long..)))- then we eventually grow out of it, trying to obtain our own unique method, even if hints of past inspirations linger in the current mold, one presents before themselves. but my point is.. which i probably shouldn't of got into a passionate rant about.. ((curse you hindsight!))

I cant see that as being better or worse then someone when what we are doing is almost completely different yet at the same times its the same as the other .

bah maybe my outlook about all this has been warped by my indifference about most things XD

well.. hope it made some kind of sense.. unless i went completely off topic here and it was more about the know-how or the tools that are needed in order to do these kinds of thing's, if that's the case then.. tutorials are the answer, lots and lots of tutorials.. sai paint is cheaper then photoshop in every way its like a smoother version of it minus the filters and special effects i guess if photoshop is the evolved version of mspaint then sai is the "delayed but not completely late to the party" prequel to photoshop. so sai can really help with progressing's ones abilities. it takes a little getting used to and finding a right settings for each tool. so for my i'm am still a baby bird learning to take flight because my learning pass is that of a turtle on land eventually i reach that sea :'3

but i'm billions of miles away from were i wanna be. XD where is "that exactly?
i dunno.. but one-day i will find that answer hence why i will always be a beginner until that day has finally come for me to see with my own eyes.

don't you sometimes feel that way as well?

lol again sorry for the long winded rant-thing hope it made event he slightest bit of sense >,>

Don't you start drawing something and say "I know just how I want this to look"?
That is where I want to get to, ability wise. I want to be able to picture something in my head and be able to draw it without spending 10 times the amount of time I do now and with it looking horrible.

Though, you do have to give yourself some credit. EVERYONE is going to say the same thing when you say your still a beginner with your level of skill. Saying things like that is just hurtful to those just starting, if your still a beginner, then why bother if your going to spend years and still be a novice.

winterweather In reply to alzang676 [2013-02-21 03:40:51 +0000 UTC]

nope i don't think i've ever done that. i never think when i draw if that makes any sense. XD
if something happens it just kinda happens, i find that if i start to think what i want to draw and how i want it to look.. usually means im now entering artblock mode. XD in short i draw/doodle on a whim what ever comes out usually is the end result that i sometime post
I know that feeling.. but i usually spend those "tens of time" on things, s'why i don't stream often, because i have to get something prepared and it sometimes takes hours before i have something to work with.. but if i do have that "image of what i wanted it to look like in my head.. it doesn't come out the way i want it to.. because i quickly forget about it, even as i'm in the middle of drawing it. so for me i try not to think when i draw. sadly it tends to fall back on some default milf or short girl with flatchest and wide hips rather then something more dynamic or what not.

nope the day i give myself credit is the day i become arrogant XD lol or something like that. though there are times i praise myself for finally learning how to draw a certain part of the body properly ((which isn't very often))

that can't be helped.i mean sure my way of thinking can't be translated well to others in understanding why i do and act the way i do. so it'll be a 50/50 result i suppose. ^^'

well i'm a beginner because it's a goal to get "better". what i define as "getting better" is/may be different from what others see from their perspective of me i guess.
Its like an unobtainable goal. knowing one will never truly reach.. it keeps the challenge to continue moving forward and in someways keep it fresh.
Sort of like the type of goal to finally reach a level were one can no longer improve. but the reality of that is, its an unreachable goal, because such a level doesn't really exist, unless one stops trying to improve, or becomes content with their current level. so its a endless road/stair-way of sorts, a goal one can never reach, its full of events like being able to meet others, experiencing all kinds of emotions, realizing ones limitations and/or even being able to overcome these limits.. so in a sense its like going right back to the starting line, with each new thing one experiences. if that makes any-sense so this is why i will always be a beginner as every-time i learn something i'm always seeing new thing's/methods/people/etc within these moments and come to realize just how little i truly know of it. so it's like a fresh start.

there's this one method i use to sometimes overcome these unclimbable walls. like it becomes harder to understand how to improve myself because i keep trying the previous methods on this new structure and it just doesn't work.. i stop drawing for a few months resulting in me forgetting everything i learned up to a current point about drawing, but somehow becomes an instinct ((kinda like a defrag and compressing method)) which makes room for new concepts to add to my list of methods to try . so now that i learned these newer means to draw with what i previously struggled with. like i finally figured out how to climb/break the wall that was previously in my way. if that makes any sense XD

so in short something i struggled with in the past becomes something somewhat more simple now that i adapted these new ways to go about it. so i "forget so that i can relearn" and i come to the acceptance that i still have much to learn. hence why i am a beginner XD

i doubt this method will work for others but its one i learned from the authors commentary in the you're under arrest comic when i was about 15 or so. its been working for me ever since. the "forget what i knew and start from scratch method". i guess this would sound better then how i previously worded it XD

I see, but at least saying something like "that looks pretty good" is giving yourself credit and I wouldn't say it's being arrogant. I'd say that would be like if you decided to not take advice from others about something, which I don't think anyone has given you pointers yet on your work.

nope that's crossing the line for myself. i won't allow me to do such a thing. it would go against me, myself and i. lol i've taken advice before maybe not always on da but places i've been from time to time. :3
