Description an older face paint design i used a few years back before settling into "my look"lol.
why do we paint our face??(along with is that your REAL hair and what does the paint/colors mean?are the most commen questions we get!lol)
well..let me tell you what i was told by the elders;
the meanings are as varied and personal as the dancers wearing them.sometimes they come as visions and dreams, others choose them as dictated by tribal custom(as some designs belong to certain dances.for example;i was told never to use dots if i was to perform a grass dance.)another example would be the buffalo dance face painting, which may only be used during the buffalo dance.
still others choose them for aesthetic reasons.
a commen belief is that on the battlefield if two warriors, and enimies faces painted killed each other they would enter the spirit world faces unpainted and be friends with no animosity towards one another.something to think about eh??

What do the beads do? If you paint your eye flesh what would occur? AHhh sorry for being so direct am anchery but not at you.

Thanks for cheerin' me up, buckaroo. Oh, so it's like how people put that stuff on their eyes to look native? Where did you learn to dance? Was it innate?

Paint represents different things to different dancers.,...
In my case, the black represents the unknown and the white represents the cold snow(since i hail from Canada!)

Merci beaucoups!!! My family came to the Three Rivers area of Quebec in the 1600's, so one part of my heritage is French Canadian! My ancestor's eldest son married a woman who is Huron! So even though I'm a teensy itsy bitsy bit Native American, I am absolutely drawn to that part of my ancestry! That is why I'm so very interested in your artwork!!!! So thank YOU for sharing your work and your photographs here on dA so we can all enjoy it!

its always funny that, right before a dance ,to see a line of grown men applying paint to thier faces and see all the concentration!!!!lol-respect to all the gals out there who can pull that off day after day because the first few times i painted my own face ,..well,it was pretty funny!lol

All beautiful: The paint, the jewelry, the clothes the colors in general and the photo itself.

I also like so much that you tell some interesting facts about sour pictures. I am always eager to learn more about other cultures, especial those that still respect Nature.

ahhhh-glad you like the information as well as the photo!lol, great stuff!
i pass down things as they were passed on to me by other dancers and elders so the culture keeps moving forward.
ive always had respect for nature, mother nature has been around for a long time before we showed up and she will be doing just fine long after we are gone.
thank you again for the kind comments!meegwitch!

I only wish more people would understand the importance of remembering and keeping up the old lore. Today's so called "modern" people totally lost their link to nature, they think nature is some kind of enemy they must defeat, but no matter how hard they try, nature is everything and is everywhere - the concrete and asphalt, the glass and plastic, the dirty cities are all built of the same molecules, and when the human race disappears nature will take it all back.
But I think there is still hope, and the time of the rainbow warriors is close.

Best wishes,
Storm
