CHAPTER 3

It was strange. Erina knew they had just met, but it felt like she had known Touma forever. And it was clear that Touma felt the same way.
A waitress and a police officer. Their paths had never crossed before this fateful encounter.
But when Touma wrapped his arms around her and said, “I’m in love with you,”
Without hesitation, Erina said it back.

“Realistically, people don’t fall in love that fast” you reasoned, gesturing with your drink in Oikawa’s direction, “don’t you think so?”
Oikawa laughed. “Well, it’s impossible to predict where your feelings will lead you.”
“But still” you argued, “how can you fall in love with someone you just met?”
“Love at first sight.”
“Does that really happen?” you wondered.
“There are times you think it true” Oikawa said, “but...I found that when you’re attracted at first sight, you find grievance later on down the way.”
“What you mean to say is...love like that doesn’t last.”
“I suppose so.”
“Which only proves my point” you said.
“You know, (Last Name)-chan” Oikawa leaned on the table, tilting his head, “you seem to be a lot more comfortable talking to me.”
“Well, we’ve been working together for a few months” you laughed, “I could easily call you a friend.”
“I hope we’ll still be good friends after this film is over” Oikawa said.
“I’d like that” you answered in all honesty.
“Oikawa-kun, (Last Name)-san!” Takeda called, “we’ll continue filming in five minutes. Please get ready in the meantime.”
Oikawa stood, placing his hands in his pockets. “Then, I’ll see you in a few, (Last Name)-chan.”
“Likewise.”

“I’m in love with you, Erina” Oikawa murmured, his arms tightening around your waist.
You swallowed hard before getting the courage to look into his eyes.
“Touma…” you hesitantly raised your arms before wrapping them around his neck, “I’m in love with you, too.”
“Cut!” Takeda approached the two of you. “(Last Name)-san, your delivery of the line was great, but your actions were too hesitant. Takahashi Erina is sure of her feelings, and immediately responds to Touma’s confession.”
“Right, sorry” you apologized.
“No need to apologize” Takeda said kindly, “alright. Let’s make this the last run for today. Ready? Action!”

“It’s hard to express” you sighed, leaning back in your chair. “Hey, Shimizu, Yachi. Have you ever loved someone before?”
Both of them jumped at your sudden question, averting their gazes.
You laughed. “Well that answered my question quickly. When was this?”
“High school, I guess” Yachi murmured, blushing.
“Oh, you were both in the same club” you remembered, “so then it was around the same time, too.”
“Hitoka started dating after I graduated” Shimizu said, smiling, “so I had no idea that it happened until later.”
“Y-you also started dating after you graduated, so I didn’t know either” Yachi said.
“So you both have experience” you said glumly, “sometimes, it’s hard for me to act something I’ve never felt before.”
“Well, sometimes, it’s almost the same as friendship” Shimizu said, “but with more compassion.”
“Right” Yachi said, “it was almost the same as when we were just friends.”
“Friends don’t hold hands or kiss” you said bluntly, causing Shimizu and Yachi to turn awkwardly in opposite directions.
“I’m just teasing” you laughed. “It would have been nice to experience it before this film though” you said a little regretfully, “then Takeda-kun wouldn’t have to repeat so many scenes.”
“Why don’t you try going on a blind date?” Yachi suggested.
“How could a famous actress go on a blind date?” Shimizu asked, amused.
“Oh, right” Yachi realized. “Don’t you have anyone you might have feelings for, (Name)-chan?”
You considered the question for a moment. “No one comes to mind.”
“(Last Name)-chan!”
You turned towards the voice. Oikawa stood at the other side of the set, waving at you.
For a moment, you felt your heart beat faster. The sound resounded in your ears for a moment before you came back to your senses.
What was that?
You shook your head. You were too immersed in acting. It must have been that.
“What is it?” you asked as he approached.
“Ah, if you’re free right now, I was wondering if you wanted to talk for a bit” Oikawa said, “maybe I could give you some advice, since you asked me earlier to help you adjust to the love aspect of the film. Though, I have to meet with Akari-chan later, so we can’t talk too long.”
“Oh, yes I should be free right now!” you turned to Shimizu for confirmation.
She gave you a nod.
“Great” Oikawa smiled, “I’ll give Akari-chan a call to let her know. I’ll be right back.”
“Sure.”
As he walked away, you raised your hand to ease the pang in your heart. Why...why did you feel so bothered?
Was it something he had said?
