Transport: The metal device on his back is known as the Aspida Pylii. It can transport 400 lbs worth of matter to different dimensions, and is powered by tiny shards of Nerym horn. It has a 20 hour cooldown after use, and those with magical abilities that use it for transport are unable to use those abilities for thirty minutes once they materialize in the new dimension.
Creature: Nerym: Pale humanoids with black eyes, white, blonde, pink, or black hair, and translucent, turquoise horns that allow them to manipulate aether: a magical energy that flows through everything in their dimensions (this will be explained more in-depth below.) The more a Nerym is able to manipulate aether, the more respected they are. This can be determined by how many horns they have-- horns that don't start growing until age 18. Nerym age normally until age 18, and after that, age 5 times slower than humans. Nerym do not possess surnames, but instead have a name and number combination that is specific only to them, even after death.
Though Nerym are capable of childbirth, they find it risky and unsanitary, and prefer to have scientists design the exact child they want. Few Nerym exist today that were not grown in an artificial womb. Nerym can order their first child for free, but can have more care given to the child's features if they pay more. Second children and onward are highly expensive, even if the first child dies. As such, there is no greater crime than harming a child.
Nerym cremate their dead, then bury the ashes with the seed of a tree. Nerym graveyards look like small forests. Its believed in this way your aether will be released back into the dimension through the tree, and you can be reborn again.
There are 3 categories of Nerym, the Common Nerym, the Archnerym, and the Royal Nerym.
Common Nerym: Common Nerym are regarded as 'lesser' by their fellows, and only possess two horns. They have a weak connection to the aether, and are unable to take important positions in Nerym society. Few of them live in the central city, and it is difficult for them to find someone willing to give them a higher education. Despite Nerym Science's efforts to solely grow children with 3 horns or more, it seems that the horns aren't determined by genetics, and 2 horned Nerym continue to be the majority of the population. Unfortunately, some Common Nerym develop connection to the aether at all when they come of age. If this is the case, they are believed to have been abandoned by the gods, and are banished along with common criminals.
Archnerym: Three horned Nerym with a strong connection to the aether (though the strength can vary between individuals). With the power of this connection, they can psychically manipulate non-living things within their dimension. The huge majority of them live in the central city, and all important government positions below emperor/empress are held by them.
Royal Nerym: These Nerym are extremely rare, and are considered to possess a piece of the soul of the goddess Chiar. They have 5 horns, and when they come of age their eyes start to glow a luminous turquoise. No matter your background or family, if you are determined to be a royal Nerym, you are whisked away to the palace and groomed to be the next emperor or empress. If a new ruler is needed and there are multiple Royal Neryms that are considered ready, there will be a contest, and eventually, a vote among the advising council about who will succeed the throne.
Aether: Believed to be the very life force of the goddess Chiar, or the god Os. It flows through everything in the Chiaros dimensions, and most Nerym can sense it with their horns. Aether that flows through living beings melds with their life force, and thus cannot be sensed as strongly or manipulated whatsoever, but the aether that flows through dead matter is pure, and has power over any lifeless objects it inhabits. When a Nerym senses pure Aethyr, they are able to move it to some extent, or even add to it by using the large amounts of aethyr stored in their horns. Aether is rarely in high enough concentrations to be visible, but when it is, it appears as a bright, shimmering turquoise.
In most cases, the highest extent of power aether has over the objects it inhabits is moving them, bending them, or breaking them. Nerym scientists, however, have developed a metal that reacts strongly to aetheric influence, and can easily change shape without breaking. This metal is used in important Nerym machinery, and issued to the government and army for use as weapons.
Dimension: Chiaros (kee-ahr-ohs): Rather than only one dimension, Chiaros is two parallel dimensions that are closely interwoven with one another. The 'good' dimension is Chiar, and is where Nerym live and thrive. The 'bad' dimension is Os. In this dimension, the Nerym planet is nearly uninhabitable, and criminals and abandoned common Nerym are banished here to die or eke out a meagre existence. The aether on Os is much harder to tap into, and can injure or kill any Nerym that tries to use it.
Recently, there have rumors of an emperor organizing an army on Os, though none have been confirmed. Many officials in the Nerym government fear the war that this might entail.
Mythology/History:
Nerym mythology goes that there was once a five-horned god named Chiaros that created the Nerym world in their heart, and that all Nerym lived in peace and harmony for Eons. One day, however, invaders came from another dimension on a strange machine, seemingly to escape from some darkness that had destroyed their home dimension. At first the invaders were welcomed with open arms, and things continued to be peaceful, but after some time the invaders began to use their superior technology to overrun and enslave the native Nerym.
Chiaros, pained, but unable to directly influence the dimension they created in their heart, instead made magical horns sprout from the Nerym's heads, that, with their high content of aetheric energy, had the ability to manipulate pieces of the dimension. However, this new, confusing magic wasn't enough, and only made the invaders worse as the horns were found to be an excellent source of energy.
Saddened even more by this turn of events, Chiaros split into to two and began rewriting the fabric of the now shredded, yet parallel dimensions. The three-horned female Chiar was gentle and wise. The dimension formed of Chiar flourished, and this was where the Nerym remained. The two-horned male Os was vengeful and angry. All of the invaders that had ever harmed a Nerym were pulled to here, and every aspect of the land attacked them until nearly none remained alive. Unable to remain conscious while split, Chiar and Os curled up and went dormant. It is said Chiar can still speak through the shards of her soul that inhabit each royal Nerym.
The Planets:
The inhabitable planets in both Chiar and Os are round, and both possess a single landmass shaped like a 5 petaled flower. The main city is in the center of the flower, and the royal palace is at the center of said city. The further you travel from the center, the poorer the Nerym living around you tend to get. The weather in Chiar is always mild-- rolling grass, pale skies-- even the storms are gentle, while the weather in Os is always dark, cold, windy, and stormy. Few plants are able to grow on Os, due to its rocky exterior. Dimensional travel between both Chiar and Os is common among high officials that possess an Aspida Pylii, though in most cases the device cannot take one to dimensions other than these two. Events in Chiar occasionally affect events in Os, and some Nerym see visions of the parallel dimension while going about their daily lives.
Notable locations:
There are few notable places in Chiaros, most notably the two cities in the centers of the continents:
Chiar's city, also known as Aeolidae, is white, high tech, and beautiful. Large walls surround it, and the guarded gates have sensors within them that can differentiate approved individuals from those not welcome by the chips in their shoulders. A graceful palace lies in the center of the city, heavily guarded, and also so large that it would take two weeks to explore all the rooms it has to offer. The city is also where the best schools are located, is where children are designed and made, and where aether is being researched every day. Few know how to fight here, and have the utmost faith in the Emperor/Empress, and their army. Occasionally you can pass a small, well kept grove within the city. These are cemeteries, and each tree acts as a grave marker.
Os's city, also known as Falinael is still large, but dilapidated and dirty. The once white buildings are darkened with dust and ash, and any machines are made from scavenged scrap metal. The walls are broken down, but some have fortified them with barbed wire and spikes. Gangs rule the different sections of Falinael, and the only way to make it by is to fight them, hide from them, or join them. Graveyards in Falinael are wild, tangled brambles, and a celebration is held during your funeral if its believed you died with honor. Large greenhouses stocked with growing food are located throughout the city, and this food is the main reason those not belonging to a gang try to make inside.
Another notable place is the Vilras Mine. Here the metal for Chiarric weapons is mined by two horned Nerym with a poor connection to the aether. It's only about a mile away from the ocean, so attacks from the violent race that live within the ocean waters aren't uncommon.
The mine is ignored on Os, and known as the Metal Storm as the chaotic aetheric energies cause the metals in the ground to move unpredictably. Neryms that brave it could end up impaled on a spike that suddenly shot up, or trapped underground by walls that move.
Technology:
Before the invaders from another dimension came, Chiaros had only medieval level technology. The invaders though, spread much of their knowledge through Chiarosian lands, and after the split the Nerym built upon these technologies in their own ways.
Chiar built upon these technologies the most, and can now grow artificial organs, design babies, and grow them in large, liquid capsules, chip their population, craft small robots used for cleaning, automate food growth and distribution, and most importantly, they built upon the invader's dimension travel technologies to create such a thing of their own-- the Aspida Pylii. This technologic advancement was not spread throughout all of Chiar, however, and villages furthest from the cities are no further along than their medieval ancestors. Only the city of Aeolidae has regularly updated technological advancements.
Os built on the technologies much more slowly. Mostly they stole what they could find, learned how it worked, and rebuilt it. There were never many resources at their disposal and buildings had to be broken down for scrap metal alone. Ossians eventually began to put different devices together to build terrifying war machines. They also stole weapons and devices from unfortunate Chiarric Neryms that happened to die in Os.
Other Races:
The only other intelligent beings that live in Chiar other than the Nerym are the Minyrr and the Vogrim.
The Minyrr are believed to be the disgraced descendants of the invaders that remained after Chiaros's separation, and are forbidden from participating in Nerym society. Minyrr have gray skin that's cold and smooth like stone, and four eyes that look like pale, blue crystal. Their hair is a dark turquoise, and they have a talent for building and sailing. Minyrr villages can be found in the outer reaches of the continent.
Vogrim are amphibious, limbed eel-like beings that live in the ocean. They believe one of their sacred relics is in the center of the Nerym royal city, and often plan organized large-scale attacks. They also eat Nerym and Minyrr, and consider them a valued delicacy. Vogrim are able to regenerate at a speedy rate, and something in their blood makes aetheric energy chaotic and difficult to control-- not unlike the natural aetheric energy on Os. Vogrim have also been seen on Os, but seem uninterested in attacking the center city there.
Personality:
+Diligent +Self-Disciplined +Efficient +Rational +Decisive +Resourceful
/Competitive /Formal /Moralistic /Stern
-Arrogant -Power hungry -Forceful -High-handed -Contemptuous -Selfish
The need to prove one's worth is something that often weighs on Eiladar's mind, and guides many of his actions. He will not hesitate to use less savory methods to achieve his goals, strongly believing that the end justifies the means. This does not mean he is without morals, however. He strictly follows his personal moral code, even if in some cases it is misguided.
He is also able to be reasoned with, and does not take a particular enjoyment out of death and destruction (though he does not dislike it either). If one can convince him that his actions are detrimental to his goals, or not worth the energy and time expended, he will move on to other endeavors. However, if he feels his honor or dignity is at stake, the need to prove himself can override his desire for efficiency.
A part of him feels innately superior to all species that aren't Nerym. He will not say this, nor is he completely aware of it. It can occasionally come through in his actions however. Preference is given to species with high scientific development in their societies, or intelligent species that possess horns. This feeling of superiority, and his military past causes him to choose force before diplomacy. He also considers force a far speedier method to gain what he wants.
History:
tl;dr:
-Born to a wealthy family who pressures him to be the best in everything
-Is not the best in everything, and his family fearing him to be a Common Nerym rather than an Archnerym pays for another child
-It turns out he actually is an Archnerym, and has a great talent for manipulating aetheric energy
-Joins the military and shines there
-Meets his new sister after she is a few years old, and though he resents her at first they grow close
-They grow apart as they both start to focus on their military pursuits
-He becomes a respected general of the empress, and gains a reputation for ruthlessness
-The empress dies, and the new empress who is young and inexperienced, repels his ideas and methods
-He tries to raise discontent with the new empress, and after using brutal methods to make sure a sickness didn't spread, the new empress banishes him from the city and strips him of his rank
-His allies abandon him, and his sister becomes his replacement
-He doesn't do well in village life, and can frustratedly do nothing when he hears news of a dimensional traveling train, and a possibility of war
-With help, he sneaks into the city, and regains weapons and a form of dimensional travel
-Uses Royal Nerym horn to make the dimensional travel more powerful, and plans to steal the train to use as a bargaining chip to make the empress reinstate him as general.
-Finds Dominic, and joins him until it appears that they want different things.
Eiladar was the first child designed by a wealthy, high-status family with ruling council ties. He rarely saw his parents, as they were often working, and when he did he often failed to meet their expectations, no matter how hard he tried to do so. He soon learned that only by being better than his peers could he gain any approval by them, and this fostered a highly competitive nature within him. This also caused any friendships he formed to be nothing more than superficial alliances that might pay off in the future. He worked at swordplay, etiquette, and schoolwork ceaselessly, only to come out as fifth in his class when he graduated. His parents mostly ignored him after that, and he began to fear the arrival of his 18th year with his very core. This would be when his horns would appear, and his status in society would be determined. He knew that some high-status families would protect their two horned children from being evicted from the main city. He also knew that his would not.
When his 18th year did arrive, only two turquoise nubs appeared behind his ears. It was at this point that his parents paid for another child, hoping to continue the family dynasty. A week later, the eviction papers arrived, and were being filled out when a third nub appeared on his forehead, and a shorter, third horn began to grow.
This was when his life began to turn around. As it happened, Eiladar had great proficiency in manipulating aetheric energy, and could now run circles around his other three horned peers. Though his family urged him to work towards a council position, he instead joined the military, and quickly worked his way up the ranks while fighting off Vogrim invasions and crushing rebellions. 7 years later he returned to visit home, and found he had a new sister.
She seemed to effortlessly gain the affection that he had worked so hard to achieve, her natural likeability and surprising wisdom for her age winning over countless people around her. As a result, he resented her at first. She, however, admired him almost to the point of worship. This affection eventually won him over as well, and he'd often watch over her, bring her gifts, or tell her stories of his exploits. His duties in the military grew as he aged however, and as did hers as soon as it was revealed she would be a powerful three-horned archnerym as well. Though she eventually joined the military to follow in his footsteps, they rarely saw each other and began to grow apart.
When he became 82 years of age, he was promoted by the empress to become one of the three generals of Chiar. His promotion was met with much approval from the general populace, and he started to win countless battles for the Nerym forces. He also gained a reputation for being ruthless, for if he saw a threat to the empress or his society, he would crush it completely. Often only sparing children who, if they were Nerym, he would send to officials that would do what they could to ensure the children wouldn't become threats later in their lifespan. The empress, having faced many betrayals in her life, approved and respected his methods. He respected and honored her in kind. This lasted for 38 years, when, much to Eiladar's astonishment and sadness, the empress mysteriously died.
Not only did the empress die, but the elder and favorite of her two successors mysteriously died as well. There was no evidence of foul play, and many began to suspect a new disease that affected royal neryms. These deaths left only one royal nerym to inherit the throne-- a 19 year old girl that was born outside the city. She was quickly instated as the new empress, but many doubted her youth. She would be the youngest Nerym to ever become emperor, and already she had a far different demeanor than the palace officials were accustomed to. Foremost among those that doubted her was Eiladar. A large part of him believed that the empress before her, his empress, had been murdered despite what had been found by the officials, and this new empress preached mercy and greater equality-- things that went against his values and methods. He fought against her at every turn, and did what he could to increase the council's power. He simultaneously did his own investigation into the death of the empress but like those before him was unable to find anything. His actions didn't go unnoticed. When he started to suspect that what killed the empress might actually be some sort of disease, reports of a new deadly sickness spreading through a small village was reported to the palace. The empress, wanting to get him out of her way sent him to personally handle the situation, ordering him to quarantine the village, and remain there until the disease had run its course. He instead killed all but the children within, sent the children to be quarantined and watched by a select group of doctors, and burned the bodies and houses so he could quickly return to the palace. The empress was furious, and her, and her chosen members of the council decided this was grounds for loss of his position, and banishment from the main city.
What he interpreted as an elimination of a widespread plague ended up being his undoing. Though those that owed him favors managed to prevent him from being sent to Os. They could do nothing about him being sent to the outer reaches of Chiar, and having his weapons and rank stripped from him. His family disowned him, and his replacement was his younger sister who he had been close to years before. She who had once idolized him, now viewed him with pity, and was a staunch believer in the young empress's desire for a more equal, more merciful world. Those he thought were close allies, and even a lover abandoned him. Within 1 short week, he was sent to the small village of Ranha.
He did not adapt well to the country village life. Though he managed to get a small house for himself, he missed the technology, comfort and convenience of his city life. He also missed his power, and those in the village resented him due to sympathizing with the rebellions he'd crushed, and in some cases, having family members that he'd killed. They did not try to attack him, due to his control over the aether making him a formidable foe, but he would receive help from none. Every day he tried to make a plan for vengeance, and every day he couldn't come up with something that wasn't certain to fail. News of a magical train with farm more advanced dimensional travel than they were capable of would reach his ears, and he could do nothing but grit his teeth as further news that the Nerym had lost it came his way. To add insult to injury, people were seeing visions of troops and an emperor and Os, hinting at a possible war with their brother dimension. A train that could effortlessly travel between the two dimensions with no drawbacks would be a godsend if such a war were to occur. Every inch of him believed that if this war came to be, it would be lost without him at the helm. And one night, to his surprise, he learned that an officer of his agreed.
The officer was one of the Nerym that had seen the foreboding visions of Os, and though he liked the new generals, he felt they were generals for times of peace, where Eiladar was a general for times of war. Eiladar ordered the officer to steal him something that would confuse the city gate's sensors and tracking devices, and informed him that he would take care of it from there.
There were few routes he could take to get himself reinstated as general. Either he would need to threaten them, or he would need to own something they wanted. Eiladar didn't have the troops or support needed to threaten the empress and the council, but he knew something that they wanted-- and that was the train. Though murdering the empress was also an option, he quickly discarded the idea due to her power and voice being needed during times of war, the fact that she had no successor, and the fact that such a feat was highly difficult to do and wouldn't gain him much support. Using the device the officer stole for him he disguised himself as a farmer delivering supplies, and snuck into the city he hadn't seen in decades. Many years ago he had hidden weapons and a uniform in a Nerym graveyard, beneath a white tree. Fortunately they were still there, and now armed, he secretly made his way to his former home. Luckily for him, his sister now lived there, and with some guards killed and the aid of a secret entrance, he managed to steal her Aspida Pylii, and some shards of a Royal Nerym's horn that he'd confisticated from a thief he'd excecuted. Once those were gotten, he wasted no time and hastily escaped the city, moving to the next phase of his plan.
He knew that in theory, the Aspiida Pylii should be able to take one to any dimension, and that they simply lacked the power. Nerym horn was a particularly potent battery however-- especially if the horn came from a Royal Nerym. The practice would be unthinkable to most Nerym-- horns needed to be harvested from a living Nerym to keep their potency, and even touching an emperor or empress without their permission was taboo. Eiladar wasn't certain that the shining turquoise shards were what the thief said they were, but he could think of no other options. He found a place that was mostly abandoned, fitted the shards into the dimension traveling device, then tested it.
It miraculously worked. Eiladar traveled from dimension to dimension, picking up what information he could from residents, books, and even divinations. His search eventually led him to Dominic-- someone that knew exactly where the train was, and whose desires seemed to align with Eiladar's. Currently, Eiladar is working with him until their plans overlap.
Skills:
Ringblade Manipulation: Eiladar wears 7 rings, each of which can be morphed into a sharp, circular blade, or a small, two-bladed sword. They're crafted from metals from his dimension, and have a strong reaction to Aetheric control As such, he can quickly whisk the blades through the air with his mind as long as they remain within a 30 ft radius.
However, the more he tries to control at once, the more difficulty he has with precision. As such, he only wields more than 3 at a time when he feels it's necessary.
Aetheric Shield: Using the Aspida Pylii on his back, Eiladar can use pure aetheric energy to form either a large shield (4ft x 7ft) with hp equivalent to his defense, or a smaller shield (2.5ft x 2.5ft) with hp equivalent to 1/5 of his defense. He can form the large shield a maximum of 3 times a day, or he can choose to form the smaller ones for a maximum of 15 times per day.
Aetheric Step: Small platforms that Eiladar or others can step on to hover above the ground. They don't function as shields, are only 1 foot in diameter, and have 1 hp. They can't be moved once formed, only dispelled, and only 3 at a time can be casted within a 30 ft radius.
Swordplay: Eiladar carries a sword, and knows how to use it. If unable to use his magical abilities, he won't hesitate to go this route instead.
Telepathy: If Eiladar touches his forehead horn to another's forehead, he can transfer some of his energy over to them to be able to telepathically communicate with them over any distance for 7 days. Both parties can choose what they wish to communicate to the other, and both thoughts and emotions can be sent as long they are currently thinking/currently feeling said thought or emotion. He is only able to do this with one person at a time.
Good Hearing: Can pick up more sounds than a human, and interpret whispers if they are within a 20ft radius.
UNLOCKED AT LEVEL 7:
Complete Aetheric Defense: For five minutes or less, Eiladar can form an impenetrable, atmospherically regulated spherical shield. It has a diameter of 7ft, and after use Eiladar won't be able to use magic for the next 24 hours. Nothing physical can come in, or out, and if 5 average sized people are within the shield, it can get difficult to breathe in the last couple minutes. Once the shield is used, it has a cooldown of 3 days.
Weaknesses:
Loss of Weaponry: All of Eiladar's abilities except for his telepathy and hearing rely on what he carries with him. He can't manipulate objects that weren't created using materials from his dimension, and what he owns merely needs to be moved a 30ft distance a way for him to be unable to use them. If his weapons and Aspida Pylii are taken, he will be able to do little more than the average, weaponless human.
Horns: His horns are sensitive and will shatter if a force strong enough to break a femur bone hits them directly. If this happens, great pain will immobilize him. If he loses all of them he won't be able to manipulate aetheric energy. Each horn takes 5 years to regrow.
Water: Aetheric energy reacts oddly when submerged in water. He will lose considerable control if any of his blades or horns become surrounded by the liquid.
Dimensional Travel: If he uses his method dimensional travel, he will have only his sword to defend himself for the next 30 minutes.
Children: He will avoid risking killing a child of an intelligent race, as doing such a thing is unthinkable in Nerym culture. If the one he is fighting appears to be a child, he will hesitate in his actions.

The guards didn't try to stop him as he stormed into his sister's office, his footsteps loud and angry against the tile floor. His teeth gritted together at their lack of acknowledgement, but simply walked past them, stepping into the room that had been his only days before. "You," he hissed. "You are the cause of this."
Auralin simply looked up from her papers, face cold and beautiful, and with a look of acceptance in her eyes rather than surprise. "Is that so?" she asked, looking back down to make a note next to a line of text.
He parted his lips as if to say something, but no words came out. He'd played out this meeting in his mind before arriving, but now that she was sitting before him-- the sister he knew and loved-- he found his fury didn't burn as hot as he desired. Swallowing, he refound his voice. "Yes," he said, his voice now a measured calm. "Mother, Father. They would step in for me if they knew you weren't taking the position, but now that you are they have nothing to lose. I have no one to back me. The young empress will simply take everything from me. A storm, without even a pebble's worth of resistance in her path."
Auralin finally put the papers down, her lips in a tight, thin line. "It seems to me Eil, that perhaps you don't deserve the position if you need others to keep it for you."
