I love the contrast of the colors. And of the fox's relatively plain color with the texture full surface on which it lays

I have been going to their den since they were only very small pups. The mother will not stay around but watches from a distance.

The sad part is that I put the photos on facebook originally and some of the local people figured out where I was and have been going there feeding them. No we just had a hurricane and the road to them is washed out, now they are coming into town looking for food. It is sad!

Nope, and I have made public pleas for people to stop, and even called Lands and Forrest to see if they would remove them and place them in a better environment but they would not.

I'd never thought there were black foxes before I saw your photos. They're adorable!

Honestly .. this is just a pup and hey gets more gray each time I go visit them at their den. I suspect he will turn gray.

I know there are gray foxes, but this is the first black on that I have ever seen and its fur seems to be changing colors, so I am thinking that perhaps gray foxes start off as black.
I could be wrong ... I know very little about them.

I had a bit of a google. We get black foxes here too, though its much rarer. From what I can tell it's a mutation of the vulvpes vulpes (red) gene. Happens more there asthere were British reds taken over for hunting and they escaped and bred with the native grays. Google is a little vague on it though.
