Description Only 16 years of age, Cindy lives with her father on the coast of the countryside. When she was just 4 years old, her mother died of a terrible infection that took place within her stomach. Throughout those 4 years of getting to know her daughter, Cindy stayed beside her and gave her company, nurtured her and read her stories that made her drift into a blissful sleep. Unfortunately, one day, the mother didn’t wake up from her intoxicating dream. She died in her sleep, peacefully. With her father being a failed writer – they both had to move from place to place so he could gain inspiration, in some places he lost his muse – Cindy knows that she has to make sure she exceeds in every subject she does in order to make her father proud and to make the both of them live in a better environment (they are quite poor).

Throughout her life, Cindy spent most of her time in a wheelchair staring out of the window. She was extremely weak and couldn’t walk properly and because of her illness, which her father predicted was osteoporosis, she had been forced to stay inside for her own safety. Her father – at one time, a few years before she turned 8 – her father was under the assumption that she could die young because of the disability in her leg and therefore shielded her from the light that shone from outside her windows, letting her bathe in utter darkness. He told her to never leave her bed; he said that her leg would heal in time if she rested. During the ages of 9 and 10, she tried walking without her father knowing and always ended up collapsing or tumbling out from her wheelchair, making her cry out in pain. There were always times that she tried going outside – after hearing the jolly sounds of children laughing from not far nearby – and ended up becoming sensitive to the light, thinking it was blinding her. Finally, at the age of 12, she had been given treatment by a doctor her father called in. He stated that she was alive, healthy and well, and will be able to walk and go outside, but she wasn’t going to be basking in happiness that much longer. She has a terminal disease.

She is very good accomplishing good grades in her artworks, using just watercolours and a paintbrush, and creates fantastic masterpieces that leave her teachers lost for words. Other than this, she is very good in the kitchen in creating tiny works of art with her cupcakes, adorning them with iced flowers and hearts.

She is soft-spoken, kind and considerate to those she has yet to understand and acknowledge as her friend and have made time out of their schedule to greet her. But other than this, she is out-going and wants nothing more than a little adventure and breathe clean, fresh air. In some situations, when being faced with someone she is not being introduced to – a stranger to herself, her father and friends – she acts timid and hunches her body together tightly. When speaking to a close friend, she is excitable and – at rare times – sarcastic and teases them gently.
