Here's a bit of explanation:
Thomas is modeled after the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway (LB&SCR) E2 class tank engine. There were two variants, one with normal side tanks and the other with extended side tanks.
A total of ten engines were built between 1913 and 1916, but they were all broken up for scrap between 1961 and 1963 as part of British Railways' "modernisation" plan:Β en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_β¦
What this means is, none of the Thomases you see in "A Day With Thomas" events are original E2 class engines. They're all modified versions of other tank engine classes.
So, in conclusion, Thomas is literally the only reason the E2 class tank engine is even remembered at all.
