Exactly my first impression.
The crown of thorns(??) the sword could be a reference to the garden where the high priest's servant's ear was cut off. Cross is obvious. I wonder. Artist is in PRC, which is not friendly to the topic so maybe it's intentionally vague enough...or maybe we're both way off, lol.
