I love this picture, but I hate that the poor little dog has to be on a chain.. It's depressing.

I don't understand why anyone would even want an animal, if all they're going to do with it is tie it up and leave it outside all its life. Hell, mine sleep in my room with me, and even on my bed. We go running together for hours, and I take them with me everywhere...what fun is a dog if you don't even enjoy the company they so enthusiastically offer you? Not even to mention how awful it is for any dog, as they are such social creatures who crave interaction, to be literally punished, with isolation, for a nonexistent crime. This is a pretty, but very sad photo... uu;

I agree with you. I'd never lave my dog outside ona chain. But people in villages do this. They don't understand that is hurt dogs. They treat their pets just like animals, not family members. And they never understand it. That's sad

They're very lucky the little guy hasn't become aggressive...or is even still alive.
Unfortunately, many chained and tied dogs become very fear-aggressive toward anything and everything; not just from the lack of socialization, but because they feel as if they can't get away if they were to need to.
Rob an animal of the "flight" part of the "fight or flight" reactions, and all you're left with is a fearful, paranoid monster that'll attack you whether you mean it harm or not.
Sadly, it's not even unfounded, because being chained up means that they really are basically helpless, if other dogs or cruel humans decide to make a sport out of taunting or hurting them.
Poor pupper...if I were you, I'd have stolen him and found him a good home, personally. There isn't a lot worse than being left outside, forced to be isolated from your human "pack" and left to endure the brutality of nature, after humans have selectively bred your species until few breeds can even tolerate weather and temperatures like that.
Heck, even wild animals are capable of seeking shelter when they need it. ._.;

he should put a swivel at least on one end of the chain... preferable on both. so the chain keeps rotating at least. looks like this [link] there are different types, this should make the dog's life more comfortable and less dangerous.

Very great picture. I love the idea and how you chose to do it in a black/white setting. I also absolutely adore how you did not include the head in the picture. Needed a fav from me!
Great job on the whole picture, once again.

wonderful picture! <3
and having dogs chained up isnt as bad as people see it. When We go out I chain up our two coonhounds in the back yard, so they dont go around and dig up the yard or attempt to 'play' with the cat. Some times its for there safety and the safety of others. Now I dont believe they should be chained up all the time a few good hours of freedom is all they need. there animals.

Please report this to a no kill shelter and have the dog removed. Your family will never know who called. Do the dog a favor, and let him enjoy a few years of positive life.

Exactly, that is what I would do.
Hell, I'd free the dog myself if I was there. It angers me so much. Chains can NEVER be good. Animals are free, why hold them back. If you have no space for an animal, or you can't control it, don't freaking get it. You are only torturing the poor animal. Imagine if you lived your 'life' on a chain, put yourself in that dog's position. Have some freaking compassion!

I support a chain but in moderation. You shouldn't chain energetic dogs for very long. The reason I support the chain is because I've been tackled by dogs that people believed to be trained enough to stay close.
One tackle lead to me rolling down a 10 foot embankment into a marsh. I understand what you mean, short shains for energetic dogs are bad, but longer chains on dogs for short whiles are good.
