From Tolkien's " Silmarillion":Tolkien purists must be strong now, for I reread the Silmarillion after ten years or so, and of course my deformed mind came up with some gags.
When I read about the first encounter of elves and dwarves and that the elves were "quite surprised" cause they thought there were no other folks besides them, this rushed to my mind - never miss the chance to mock an elf.

That is why everyone loves hobbits. They'll look at you, and if they see you eat, they are like, "Ah okay. They're one of us. We can relax now." LOL Always have food with you, a hobbit will always follow.

Makes me wonder what the first contact between elves and hobbits was like; the Silmarillion never describes it, if my memory serves correct.

Yep, the first time you meet someone other than your own kind, don't say "Hello!" and be friendly or curious, jump into your friend's arms and scream in confusion and terror as you point a finger at the complete madness before your previously virgin eyes XD
I can only imagine what the others must be thinking about this. Those poor dwarves were only being friendly (well, one was, the other....well, apathy's better than hostility, right), and one elf just freaks out and panics, while the other just tries to keep balanced with the extra weight while looking totally gobsmacked XD

Pretty much...the only reason the elves appear awesome in Lord of the Rings is because all the idiotic or evil elves kill themselves of in the Second and First Age.

Although Gimli and Legoas became friends, but it it's known as a strange friendship, (since dwarves and elves don't normality get along since they are very different from one another, they have never have gone to war though Dwarves vs Elves I mean). This intro promises a lot of fun.
