Yes we have, it's all in the Smaug extended cut (or in the LotR appendices).

Heh, I just watched the deleted bits on youtube, it's a shame they didn't keep that in. It just felt strange in the actual films that we didn't learn what had happened.

At every extended edition, LotR and Hobbit, I thought 'I could they cut this?' (except maybe the Goblin king singing in AUJ).

heh, I found that funny. I really wish they kept in Beorn getting to meet the dwarves, that was hilarious. Especially as they kept misreading Gandalf's signals.

Ah, what can you do? Then people would have complained again that it was "too boring" like they did on the first Hobbit.
I'm just happy and grateful that there IS something like the extended cuts.

Dang, well, I was thinking it, but I thought it when I read the book for the first time, like four or five years after The Return of the King came out. I also thought that everybody sang too much in the book, so I may not be the best tolkienite there is.

Well, it will always be a book for children. One can't compare it to LotR.

That is more Martin Freeman bluntness than Bilbo but nevertheless well done on taking Train down a notch.

And here I thought Bofur was blunt ("Flash of light, searing pain and puff! you're nothing but a pile of ash" "Nope" *Bilbo faints* "Very helpful, Bofur")

Yup. That pretty much sums it up. Actually, Thranduil has said something very similar, even if not with those words...
