I remember watching a cartoon about the tale of Nezha. And the part where he commits suicide, and is resurrected be Taiyi made me cry.

Stunning colour and detail! I especially love the way you've done the first figure's knee. The lighting is also spot on. Love it!

Plus, kudos to you for knowing about this rather obscure legend

The legend is actually quite far from obscure in certain parts of the world. The deity called Nezha (Chinese) and Nataku (in Japanese) appears in various movies/TV series/Comic books/games.  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nataku

Hmm... Well, I'm personally more familiar with the Chinese version (I'm not as obsessed with Japanese anime as so many people seem to be)

Thank you! This feedback means a lot, coming from someone with your beautiful design sense. I was seriously considering abandoning this illustration at some point:

Originally, I painted this image in PS. But after much hard work, realized that things were not going the way I wanted, so I redid the whole picture in Illustrator. Half way through the process, I asked myself whether it was worth the extra time I was taking to recreate it. I wondered if I should just shelve it and work on something new.

But now I am glad I finished it

Beautiful color and illustration~

I have watched the Chinese anime "Prince Nezha's Triumph Against Dragon King" when I was child,
your great artwork just reminds me of the old memories.

Nezha is commonly worshiped in Taiwan, both in temples and household altars.
And he even become one of the popular Performance Cultures in my homeland!

Thank you I think I've seen the Nezha animated feature you're talking about way back when I was a kid. (If we're thinking of the same China-mad cartoon) It was awesome.

That's from English wiki:[link]

Yeah I guess we're talking about the same anime,
it's epic.
