Description Ok this is my sexy new character Blaze, he is some sort of hybrid thing. Any way since I'm still waiting for people to tell me what they want for valentines and I'm sorry but I couldn't be bothered to do requests I decided to do a personnal picture.

I've had this guy a while now but I've never done a picture of him so here he is.

I know this picture really sucks but I tried hard.

I like this character (then again, everything red seems to make me feel good ) He is a hybrid? Do you know what beasts in particular or is he just a "mixed up baby"? Love his dragony mane and large ears!

Wolfs-echo In reply to meroe1313 [2009-01-26 18:40:00 +0000 UTC]

well he is just a mix up, head of a wolf but the body should be slim like a cheetahs, the ears remind me of a rabbits and the tail is like a dragons. Thanks

I like the look of him, I really do, his expression is adorable, but I'd say if your going to do shading like that, do it on a separate layer (you have photoshop I'm guessing???) and set the brush to a very light opacity, about 10, and make it a dark color, in this case like a dark gray or dark red, and then shade the sections you want. Also it would be good if, while you were in that, you made another layer and added the sine of the water on him, which would be a light blue.

His lines should be darker though, don't go lighter, go darker, a good way to do it is if you choose the darkest color on the character and do it that way. Lock the layers and ten you can paint over them without going outside of the original lines. (that would be the transparency lock)

ok thanks for the advice my friend, I do make seperate layers but yes the shading doesn't appear very dark i may just go change the opacity now, how do you do the sine of the water?

Wolfs-echo In reply to XLegacyXDreamsX [2009-01-23 22:03:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh ok lol, so how do you do that? Oh and I darkened the shading. And do you think this picture needs a reflection? If so how do you do it? I'm just learning

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

XLegacyXDreamsX In reply to Wolfs-echo [2009-01-23 22:10:52 +0000 UTC]

its always good to add a reflection to the water if you character is that close to it, really all you need is the arm and tail and a small portion of red on the edge of the water and out to where he touches it with his paw and tail. If you want to do that then I'd say on another layer with your "fuzzy" brush, lower the opacity to about 20 and (the layer should be between the wolf and the water layer) draw very faintly the solid outline of the arm, then take your smudge tool and smudge it a little on the outside. after that if you think the reflection stands out too much go to the layer opacity and lower it a little bit so that it blends with the water.

to add the shine of the water again on another layer over the wolf with a fuzzy brush on the lower portion of his body and on the edges of his arms and tail add a very little bit of light blue. (again doing this with a veryy light opacity at about 10%)

XLegacyXDreamsX In reply to Wolfs-echo [2009-01-23 22:43:54 +0000 UTC]

lol thank you

I like where its going, really all you have to do is start messing with setting, making this darker and lighter adding different color shades. I mean it took me forever to get where I am now. but its because I listened to what others had to say and edited things by listenign and seeing other peoples art and seeing what makes them so amazing.

Yeah thats what i'm trying to do I mean on every picture I ask for people to criticise to help me improve, next time I will make the outlines darker. And I do look at other art to see what makes their's so mazing, actually I hope you don't mind I looked at yours for the ripple effect as I couldn't work out how to do it

I really like how the water came out, though perhaps trying to put his reflection into it would be more effective?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wolfs-echo In reply to frankxface [2009-01-23 20:21:11 +0000 UTC]

thanks for the advice. How do you do reflections?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

frankxface In reply to Wolfs-echo [2009-01-23 20:31:04 +0000 UTC]

I don't know the way you're comfortable with, but I would make a new layer ontop, set the flow of the pen to something like 50% with it a lighter shade of the colour you're copying, draw in the reflection, perhaps smudge it? Then put another couple layers of really slight blue colours for more water (opacity of the layers no more then 30% each). I'd have a play around, but possibly something along those lines?
