Description Why? I have no idea.
Actually, it was suggested that I try my paw at an African Wild Dog, and I took that to heart. So here is my first ever Cape Dog (she's female, btw, and has a typical mammalian lack of breasts because most mammals don't have 'em unless they are pregnant/ nursing... yaddah yaddah yaddah), and a male Waterbuck (another first) I did a bit of research into the costumes --not enough probably, lol-- to get a somewhat authentic feel.
I don't think I shall draw beads again for a while, ugh.
And yeah, I totally cheaped out on a background as usual

It was really interesting to research the clothing and jewelry designs. I should do more drawings like this; where a particular species of animal is shown in a corresponding cultural clothing style/ environment.

lol, rivals eh? Maybe.
Maybe they are secret Romeo and Juliet style lovers instead. Who knows?

Thanks.

I have a lovely book on African based photography, so I referenced these costumes from various photos in there.

Thank you.
I think that she came out a lot better too. I also had a lot of fun researching the kinds of clothing that these two would wear.

Thank you oliverfox.

Someone gave me a book for the holidays called Light At the Edge of the World: A Journey Through the Realm of Vanishing Cultures by Wade Davis.
It includes these amazing photos that the author takes, including some from a region of Kenya... those are the pictures I used for costume ideas. They were just beautiful.
I sort of thought that the Waterbuck looked rather priestly, like an ancient aegyption priest dude, lol. But his costume was actually based on these Ariaal warrior photos.

^_^ I really like this, you know, coming from Africa myself I've seen Wild Dogs and Waterbuck. One thing I would say to improve this is that Wild Dogs have larger, round ears. Really nice though

Wolfsjal In reply to Wolfdog [2004-01-04 17:19:10 +0000 UTC]

cool! I feel very untravelled; there are so many places that I'd love to see, and I have yet to leave North America.
That's awesome that you've actually seen these guys.

*makes a note about the ears* Thanks! I just had a couple different photos for reference, but actually having seen the animal, I'll definately take your word for it.

It's not very high res, but I hope that helps.

oh, hey! Thank you, Wolfdog! That's really nice of you.

I think the pic I was looking at must have had the ears at a crazy angle, lol. I'll make sure to draw them more accurately the next time I draw one. (and I just might, because the wild dog has such great colours; good fun to draw.)

Wolfdog In reply to Wolfsjal [2004-01-09 14:20:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it sort of has ears like a maned wolf really. I'd love to see you draw one again, the patterns are fun
I've got a whole tribe of canine anthros I have yet to draw, but there's a wild dog in there somewhere. I want to do a group shot or something. Anyhoo.. see how it goes...

That tribe you are planning sounds like a great idea. I hope you get the chance to draw that soon; I'd love to see it.
