Description Anthro horses are always fun.
This was mostly inspired just because I love buckskin horses.

Spirit what to you you?!

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to ask, but I'm assuming you are expressing joke concern that there is an anthro horse the same colour as the horse in the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron?

Because buckskin happens to be my favourite horse colour. Β There are definitely more buckskin and dun coloured horses in the world than just a particular cartoon horse. Β

Yeah what i meant to say is "Spirit what happened to you" but i accidentaly fucked up the grammar there sorry.
Also i know that there are more buckskin horses than just Spirit but for me it's quite difficult to see a buckskin horse and not think about him.

Not going to lie, I do think that movie is adorable. XD

Gorgeous work here, such a beautiful creature. I luv seeing anthro art that's actually art. Head and neck seem a mite big, but it's still a very nice piece.

Thank you for the comment. Β This piece is quite old now, but I still enjoy it. Β I'm actually surprised there aren't more anthro horses in my gallery given how important horses are in my life outside of just art. Β

Really? Do you own a horse?

Alas, I do not. Β I ride whenever I can though, and at one point in my life I was taking weekly lessons, working at the stable on the weekends, and volunteering for the Riding for the Disabled program here. Β I don't get to ride nearly so much anymore; it's more a matter of me going on a random trail ride if I just need a horse fix. Β I miss them terribly when I'm not around them.Β

By the way, how would you draw anthro horse hands?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

SandBladeRaider [2010-06-05 22:39:43 +0000 UTC]

It is really hard to draw anthro horses, but how well you did it isn't creepy, unusual, or disturbing, nice job.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Wolfsjal In reply to SandBladeRaider [2010-06-06 05:12:15 +0000 UTC]

lol, well thank you. I certainly hadn't intended creepy or disturbing. Unusual might have been okay though. XD

And as for how I draw the hands for an anthro horse like this, it's probably hard to see with his particular pose... but basically I draw a mostly human shaped hand for them. But instead of ending in a finger nail, I have the fingers and thumb end in a miniature hoof of sorts. If that makes any sense.

I suppose it's okay, so long as you do link back to my original and give me credit for it.

I love horses; always have. So I've been drawing them for ages now, lol.
It helps if you can see the real animal. I highly recomend going down to the nearest stable or ranch with a sketchbook if you can. As a bonus you get to see ponies!

Thank you, but no need to be envious. You are talented too, and don't need to go putting yourself down.

I'm lucky enough to have a field behind my house with horses in, the weather is just too bad to sketch But I struggle with the proportions, I think thats were I fall down

PS: I am almost finished with my art trade ^-^ Will let you know when its uploaded

Lucky you indeed! I wish I had some horses in my backyard, lol.
I used to have a lot of trouble with their legs. Horse anatomy can be pretty tough.

Oh, and I just saw the art trade tonight. Looks great, thank you so much!

Excellent use of both human and animal characteristics. I really like how you kept a whole lot of the equine anatomy correct and didn't sacrifice much; it makes for a very realistic, enthralling drawing.

Wolfsjal In reply to DreamHorseStudios [2005-01-05 03:00:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Dreamesque.

I often draw anthropormorpic animals; horses being one of my favourites. I prefer to keep more of the animal's anatomy in the creature, because I think it looks more interesting than a human body with a horse head, or some such thing.

I appreciate the thoughtful comment.

Excellent...nice choice of colors and I love how his mane drops straight down...I don't like his hands, but only because the fingers end in hooves...regardless, they came out looking great...excellent legs too...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Wolfsjal In reply to sksmash [2003-12-31 07:06:01 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the comments, sksmash.

It's always interesting to try and combine animal and human anatomy. I wanted the hooves to remain, but it was also important to have somewhat useful " hands", so that's what I ended up with. Afterall, hooves are essentially finger nails in many ways.

Horse legs can be a real pain in the tail to draw, so I'm pretty pleased with his.

Yeah, I do love the buckskins!
I know a horse named Buddy, who looks a lot like that character from the movie, but I was thinking more of Buddy than Spirit when I drew this. I don't know why I don't have more horses on here, I love drawing them.
