Tyler isn’t exactly what you’d expect from somebody born and raised in a rough and tumble desert town like Barcroft. Compared to the majority of the brash and bawdy citizens, the boy is a total cinnamon roll. A lot of that has to do with his mother’s strict upbringing. As a result he grew up more sheltered compared to his friends, which is why he’s always down for whatever crazy adventure they come up with. Unfortunately it also means he’s far more likely to give into peer pressure, either due to genuine naivety or out of fear that his friends will think he’s lame and abandon him. However, at his heart he’s a good kid who truly cares about the people closest to him.

| HISTORY |
Tyler is the eldest child of Barcroft gym leader, Monte Carlos. (Or at least he’s believed to be until his big sister, Tori, shows up.) His mom is Monte’s ex-wife, the two having divorced when he was less than a year old. There’s clearly no love lost between his parents, especially as their brief marriage was far from a happy one. Tyler ended up living with his mom, but luckily Barcroft was a small enough town that he could see his dad pretty much whenever he wanted, and didn't just have to rely on visitation every other weekend. Tyler took full advantage of this and spent as much time with his dad as he could, since Monte was a lot more fun and far less strict than his mom and step-dad were. His mom, however, was not fond of how much time he spent around his dad, and constantly lectured him about what a bad influence he was. (Which only made him want to hang out with his dad even more)
The friction between his parents only got worse after an incident that happened when he was eight. He and his friends were playing with a baby trapinch they had found. Tyler went to pat it on nose, only to have the frightened pokemon snap its jaws around his hand and fingers. One of his friends ran for help while the screaming boy tried desperately to get the bug off to no avail. His friend returned with his dad who was able to free him by catching the trapinch in a pokeball. Monte scooped him up in arms, bleeding and sobbing, and rushed him to the ER but the damage had been done. Three of the fingers on his right hand were missing, now in the belly of the trapinch. The doctor was about halfway done patching him up when his mom rushed in and flew into a rage, immediately placing all the blame on his dad. It was the worst fight he'd ever seen his parents get into, with both of them having to be escorted out by hospital security and leaving the frightened boy alone with the doctor.
While his mom had never been fond of pokemon training before, she became even more against it after that. Had she gotten her way, Tyler likely would've grown up to fear all pokemon due to her constant ranting about how dangerous they were. His dad, however, had other plans. Given that Barcroft was a rural town with an abundance of wild desert pokemon around, he knew that fearing pokemon would only be detrimental to Tyler in the long run. So the next time Tyler visited his dad, Monte led him to the backyard where he said he had a surprise for him. The “surprise” ended up being the very same trapinch that had chomped his fingers off. At first Tyler hid behind his dad, but with a bit of coaxing he was soon sitting next to him as Monte showed him the proper way to care for the pokemon. ("Here, put your hand down like this and slowly approach him from the side. They can’t see very well until they evolve. There ya go, just like that. See, he's a real sweetheart. He's just a baby and being surrounded by all you kids likely scared him is all. Probably thought you were gonna eat him.") The two kept at it and by the end of the week the boy and the bug were best friends. Eventually his mom found out about the trapinch and to say she was pissed was an understatement. After some intense arguing with Monte and a lot of pleading from Tyler she reluctantly agreed that he could keep the trapinch only after he was old enough to register as a trainer. It would be staying with Monte until then. She was hoping that Tyler would lose interest in pokemon training by the time he came of age.
Her plan backfired however, as the promise of his very own pokemon only made Tyler even more driven to become a trainer as he got older. He even went behind her back to partake in the Barcroft tradition of stealing an egg once he was old enough, after getting his dad to cover for him of course (“Please! The other kids will make fun of me if I don’t!”) Though he still has to wait a couple more years before he can take on the gym circuit like he dreams of, as his mom won’t allow him to leave before he’s 18. But when he does, he’s determined to become a great trainer and maybe even become a gym leader himself someday.

Chomper - Trapinch - Male
Licorice - Melan Lickitung - Female
The surprise that hatched out of his stolen egg. At 1st he was disappointed since he was hoping for something cool, like a sandile or onix, but the disappointment only lasted about 5 minutes. She’s his little blep baby. <3 Currently too young for battling.
| TRIVIA |
His prosthetic fingers are controlled electronically with sensors that detect the movement of his hand and wrist muscles.
He’s very comfortable with his prosthesis, having used them so long that it’s simply part of him now. The gloves are more for helping to keep sand out than for trying to hide them.
Some kids started calling him Trapinch Kid after he got his fingers bitten off as a way to make fun of him but his friends began calling him TK in support and the nickname just kinda stuck.
Greatly admires his dad and gets upset when anybody bad mouths him, especially given his reputation.
Takes great pride in being the oldest kid and while he gets along with his hoard of younger half-siblings he does secretly fear that his dad may end up liking one of them more than him. (Which is why he’s so shaken up when Tori comes into the picture)
Often seen with his pokemon out since he has to keep them in their balls at home. He does secretly let them loose in his room after his parents have gone to bed tho, shh.
Monte’s krookodile, Mia, absolutely loves him while she absolutely hates his mom.
