Description Darkrai

Very little information has been discovered about the Pokemon dubbed Darkrai by the International Pokemon League, and even less data about the creature has been declassified for public records.

History

Nevertheless, information has a way of leaking when pursued with ample pressure and generous bribes, and the following details have been gathered by multiple witnesses and official records.

The entity known today as Darkrai is believed to have first appeared on earth roughly 2.5 billion years ago in a cataclysmic event. The most current and widely accepted theory is that the Pokemon accidentally crashed into our planet alongside another, similar Pokemon: Cresselia, who was discovered on the dark side of the moon. In fact, it is believed that the Moon itself formed from the debris left over from Darkrai and Cresselia's titanic impact on Earth; both Pokemon were left unconscious, with the moon forming around Cresselia and Darkrai left buried deep within the Earth's crust.

Darkrai itself was discovered when the Soviet Union began the Kola Superdeep Borehole Project in 1970 on the Kola peninsula; ostensibly, the project's aim was to demonstrate the technological might of the Soviet Union by drilling a hole as deep as possible into the earth's core. The true aim of the project was to uncover the source of mysterious seismic readings in the Kola area, and it was more than hinted that project began because of persistent nightmares that plagued several top Soviet officials and scientists.

The public target depth for the drill was set at 49,000 ft, but in 1983 drilling ceased for about a year once the project reached 39,000 ft. The public presumed that drilling was stopped to celebrate the Kola drill surpassing the previous depth record, but in actuality the Soviet Union had uncovered an ancient and powerful being: a Pokemon quickly dubbed Tyomnii Chelovek (Dark One). During the year long drilling hiatus, a battery of tests was run on the powerful creature and it was found that it was in a coma-like sleep. Thus, an excavation began in order to dig close enough to the creature to place it within capture radius of a Pokeball (at that time, Darkrai had been nearly fossilized and was covered in several hundred layers of rock that were too close to the Pokemon for the drill to bore through and so excavation had to be done manually). Strange things began to occur at the site, with some claiming the deepness, darkness, and claustrophobia played with their minds; others say that once the sediment had been cleared away to within five feet of the buried Pokemon, people began to suffer severe nightmares, insomnia, and hallucinations. The most noteworthy incident of this phenomena is also the incident that ended the project: the largest team of technicians and engineers yet was in the Borehole clearing away the final layer of sediment on Darkrai while another team of the Soviet Union's expert Trainers stood at hand to confine the entity to a Pokeball at the first opportunity. On the surface, an engineer who had worked several long shifts in the abyss and had not yet recovered from the lack of sleep started the Kola drill; how this individual managed to bypass the heavy security at the work site is not mentioned in the official report. Regardless, within a few seconds the massive drill had gruesomely ended the lives of the engineers, trainers, and their Pokemon; just as quickly, a 16,000 ft section of the drill string was ripped off and drilling stopped at 40,231 ft, the deepest artificial point of earth and the exact depth of Darkrai's body. On that day, it was decided to abandon the project, and efforts began in earnest to seal the lowest layers of the Kola Borehole. By 2005 the first seal was in place on the bottom 1,000 ft of the hole and the project was announced as officially canceled due to lack of funding. IN 2008 all the drilling and research equipment was scrapped, a second seal was placed at 20,000 ft and the site was abandoned. It is presumed that Darkrai still lies at the bottom of the dark abyss in death-like sleep, though some engineers claim they still suffer nightmares, though this may be the result of psychological trauma.

Behavior

As has been mentioned, a battery of tests was run on Darkrai over a year, and some information was obtained about its hypothetical behavior. For example, some theorize that Pokemon like Darkrai and Cresselia are intentionally quiescent; they believe that the universe experiences cosmic cycles (similar to the seasons of Earth), and just as some terrestrial Pokemon hibernate, these great Pokemon rest in a comatose state during the present cosmic-cycle unless roused. Interestingly, several deranged cults have sprung up around the Kola Borehole (although some have a bit of credibility, as they are led by former Kola project workers), worshipping Darkrai, though they appear to be immaterial to the Pokemon's desires. in fact, Darkrai is often regarded as evil, but detailed analysis of his dream interactions lead researchers to believe that it is instead amoral, with an ethos that transcends conventional notions of good and evil.

Abilities

Darkrai, though much stronger than most terrestrial Pokemon species, is believed to be dwarfed in strength by other cosmic entities. However, Darkrai is known for its terrifying ability to put sentient's into endless nightmares; though the effect of this ability seems to be greatly diminished when the afflicted comes into contact with a feather or other tissue from Cresselia (discovered during a therapeutic experiment on Kola engineers). It is believed that Darkrai requires the chemical's released by the body when intensely afraid in order to maintain its own chemical balances. Darkrai is also thought to possess above average human intelligence, with a former Kola engineer under hypnosis claiming Darkrai can "communicate with the fleshy mind of humans in dreams." Darkrai's greatest known weakness, and a possible reason he hasn't left the Kola Borehole to terrorize our world, is a severe intolerance to UV radiation. the levels of this radiation on our planet would weaken it within minutes and likely kill it within hours. dome cultists claim that Darkrai may turn intangible, possess the ability to control shadows, and can shift his shape. in addition, researchers have discovered that Darkrai's unique relation to grid energy qualifies it a "Dark-Type" because of its nocturnal nature, capacity for frequency interference, ability to manipulate the visible spectrum, and spatial distortment capabilities.

This is definitely a "mature" version of the Darkrai and the whole description is awesome.

PS. With the script that lies behind the "History" section of your description, you can even make an adult horror movie with a creature inspired by Darkrai as an alien/ghost entity. Now that would be most intriguing.

To me, it is hauntingly beautiful. It's power is raw, and brilliant. So many sweeping, uninhibited and balanced measures. Admitadly, very few works compell me to want to paint. Yours however, reminds me of a style not unlike my own. Which, in turns invites the ache to pick up the paint and brushes after a long dry spell. Nicely done! This piece is deserving of very high marks. Dare I venture to say...? Yes, it clearly belongs in a museum. Kudos!
