Description I've decided to work on another ABCs of Under-Appreciated Animals.  I did something like this about five years ago, and had quite a lot of fun with it

I can never decide if an aye-aye is just an adorably crotchety critter, or a thinly veiled serial killer with those tapping fingers - it may be both. But, I think this guy is sensational!!

haha. Those tapping fingers do seem to be something from a horror movie don't they? The villain taps on all of the doors with his freakishly long fingers, searching for the occupied room.

Thanks! I am trying to pick some pretty silly animals for this series. The aye-aye was super fun to draw.

Did you know aye-aye's use that long boney finger to fins food?

Yes indeed! They tap on the tree bark with the finger in the same way that a woodpecker taps on a tree and listens for scurrying insects. There are no woodpeckers in Madagascar, so the aye-aye has filled the same ecological niche.

haha. Nice. I really wonder what that genus name, "Daubentonia" means. I tried to Google it, but had no luck.

Yeah. They are super creepy, but strangely adorable.

Thanks. if my memory serves me well, the genus is related to the surname of the european guy who classified it for 1st time.

Well that's not as much fun. I was hoping it would be latin for "Freaky Deaky"... or something along those lines.
