Description This segmented pot is a lesson in dealing with adversity. Originally it was going to be a single vessel, but was damaged before it was completed. I cut away the damage, extended the jagged opening and added "breakage cracks". Then made six more pots, each a smaller version of the original, each mounted inside the previous one, and each with a hole in its side. The innermost pot is the size of a B-B, and it has a hole too.

FYI, in the field of archeology, researchers learn a lot about early civilizations, by piecing together pottery shards
found in situ. This work is dedicated to Native American Archeology. Made of mahogany and poplar, 12" in diameter.

Amazing....I just "ruined" four pieces by oiling them, they began splitting and falling apart. I'm going to adopt your attitude and "make lemonade"Thanks for the inspiration!

I don't know what oil you used, but I like Danish oil and a gel form of poly for hand rubbing. It's hard for me to believe that the oil caused the splitting.

it was dissolving the glue,(elmers wood glue), and swelling some of the more porous layers in the plywood...I was using mineral oil in response to a suggestion I found on the internet...with a top coat of paraffin wax.
Thanks for your feedback! Joel.
