Description This is something that came about coincidentally while I was working on the recent Comedy and Tragedy masks painting. I've got a saturation layer in there to help me achieve the coloring effect I want, to make the fire really "pop" out, so it's brighter than the rest of the image. And if you turn the saturation layer opacity all the way up to 100% you get a gray-scale image, so this was an easy way to produce this version where the whole image is gray except for the flames. I just think it's a cool visual, that's all.

Yeah, it does... I actually have had difficulty discerning facial expressions because of my Asperger Syndrome... Read a book on the science of facial expressions recently to help me learn how to read them better.

Ohhh I didn't know that Asperger did that! You can't tell that you have difficulty. ^^

Ayup! I tell you, watching TV and movies now is a whole new experience after having read that book. And actually I got a DD here recently for a tutorial I created based on the info in the book. The book is Emotions Revealed by Paul Ekman. I also get that a lot, people when I tell them I have Aspergers saying "you don't seem autistic"... apparently a lot of us get that -- we don't fit the stereotype apparently unless we're so debilitated that we can't carry a conversation like Raymond Babbitt.

Well I know that Asperger's is very different on the Autism spectrum. A friend of mine, his kid was just diagnosed with Autism. He's an adorable kid and talks just fine and does things for himself just fine (he's very smart) and you wouldn't know he's got Autism at all.

And very funny with the Rainman reference there.

There's a plan to eliminate Asperger Syndrome actually as a separate diagnosis in the next version of the DSM. Right now there are 4 individual labels - Autism, Asperger's, HFA and PDD-NOS. In version 5 of the DSM they plan to have only the one label of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) instead. I'm concerned that this will make it more difficult to make both social and scientific progress toward providing solutions to help people with autism integrate into their communities.

I actually agree with you on that. D: I don't understand why some people say Asperger Syndrome isn't really a disorder. I guess some people abuse it. From what I can tell you're not an asshole so I know you're not abusing it. C:

Well yeah, you can use just about anything as an excuse... or you can go the opposite route and work on doing something about it... which is what I try to do. I let people know that, hey, if I come across as being abrasive or insensitive at times, it's probably not intentional, it's just because of my condition... but I've seen some people go a step further in that direction and say "this is the way I am, now get over it". I refuse to do that. The autism is my challenge, not yours. Instead I read books like Paul Ekman's Emotions Revealed, which helped me learn how to read facial expressions so that I have a better understanding of the people around me. That's just one of a number of ways that I work to shore up my rough edges. (Just as I would with any skill-set, like my art.) Also, let me know if you ever find me abrasive or insensitive - it's just like critique on my art, I can only do something about it if people tell me.

I'm vaguely contemplating one more post edit out of this image. Now that one would really be like doing a photomanip with my own image.
