Description The X wings all stood in a row, some old some newer, and they were ready for Β a training round, a few outshining the old ones, but none the less they all flew efficiantly. A few pilots of all species in the galaxy working for the resistance were here and there, talking or making jokes, getting along as a team should. Alrai was one of these team members, but before she could make friends and joke along, she wanted to look closer at her fighter, trying to find the ticking noise wherever it may have been inside the compartments or engines. She wiped her face down with a cool rag that was hanging off her hip, and tried to ignore the sweat beating down her roundish face and down to her chin, trying not to smell the purted odor radiating from the inside from the fuels and coolents. Finally she had been fiddling around enough to find a misplaced wrench that had gone missing, stuck in the X wings engine compartment, and she presumed thats what the noise had been. She reached in further and pulled out the missing tool, happy it had been their the whole time and not somewhere else where she would not find it, though the engine compartment would have been the last place she would have thought to look.
She closed the door to the engine and made sure to wipe down her face again, her wet hair spreading across her forhead. She felt the hot sticky wetness down her neck and pulled up her braid to wipe it down. " Son of a..." She breathed to herself. She shook out the rag after the absorbed the water and threw it down on her toolbox, ready to find herself a way to cool off. She needed some water, and some way to relax before a warm up jog or flight was ordered. She went to slip away, and said hey or hi to a few members of the team. Taking off her orange jumpsuit to reveal her basic clothing, which was a black short sleeve with black wraps around her elbows, along with a basic pair of black pants and knee high boots. Alrai was her name, and being kinda a loner was her game, and thats the way she liked to be. Alone, because even though she had friends, she was fairly used to liking the feeling of being alone and reclusive. She held a pair blue pale orbs that were glimmery and a pair of lips that were pink and thin, and all together she had a pretty face, with her brunette hair to go along with it. She slipped away into the dence wood that surrounded the base of the Rebellion and walked till she found a near by running water source, which was a gentle creek that widened further down and babbled with the rocks and minerals that rolled and laid on the bed and floors. She knelt down on a soft patch of sand and stuck her hot hands into the water and pressed them to her face, feeling the hotness of her face on her cool hands, and vice versa. The coolness overwhelmed her and before she knew it, she was splashing the cold water onto her face and happily undoing her braid to let her long brunette hair dip its tips into the running water and flow along with the river. It was a happy feeling to relax before she was ordered to take a flight course or make a patrol. She laughed to herself as she felt her hair tickle her nose and she intook a deep breath and looked at the light in the sky. She tried to collect her hair up and looked around at the scenery. The green of the growth, the yellow of the sky setting, it all was beautiful... When she turned her head expecting more of the dence grouth in which the way she had came, she jumped back in alarm at the veiw of the man standing against the tree by the brook's bank. He was staring at her with a smirk on his face and a glimmer of amusement in his eyes.
"What are you doing here?" Alrai demanded.
"What are you doing here, Alrai?" Β The guy chuckled and came over to her. He wore his flight suit, the familiar orange jumpsuit and white vest and essential assesories, and knelt down beside her in the damp bank. "You know patrols are about this hour." He smiled gently, his curly hair falling over his face in whispy bits of brown, his face was kind and nice. "You should be getting back." His voice was low and deep, but friendly and happy, just like his personality. He took a rock and chucked it into the creek, watching the splash of the stone and the water fall, and it sinking into the water. He flipped his hair back and focused his deep eyes on her.
"You should as well, Poe" Alrai rolled her eyes and began to bundle her hair to begin her familar braid, as she was cool enough now. "How long were you there?" She divided her hair into three sections and began to pull away and weeve her hair through her fingers until her hair was half way through in smoothed out strands of brunette fibers.
"Can't say." Poe smirked, and winked at her, pushing his whisp away, and grabbing a handful of Alrai's hair to braid himself. "Man, how do you do this?" He pulled knots around and attempted to put the strands in fine braids like Alrai did herself, but stuck his tounge as he struggled to mimick the girls soft woven hair.
Alrai smirked. "Watch and learn." She whispered softly, smiling like a nerd and slowly continued down her hair until she got to the bottom where she held it in her mouth, ripping a peice of her cloth off her rag and then tieing her hair down into a solid three foot braid that dangled down her shoulder. She smirked and watched Poe attempt to copy her hand motion. Finally hanging down from her hair was a blotchy, knotty brown braid with a few lumps and gaps. Poe sat back and admired his work, taking a small patch of Alrai's rag and tieing it together.
"You've never looked better!" Poe said jokingly, yet sincerly at the same time. "Let me help you take it out now." He reached over to take the clumpy braid out of her hair but Alrai shooed his hand away and left it hanging down. "Your right." She chuckled softly, making sure her braid was nice and smooth finally. "Hey maybe we should get back?"
"You ever find out what was that rattle in your X wing?" Poe nodded and got up, sticking out a hand to help her up from the ground. Taking his hand, Alrai hauled up and brushed herself off. "Yeah! It was one of my tools I left inside the last time I was fixin' it up." She said, pushing loose hairs away from her face and turned to start heading away.
"Well, at least it wont bother you anymore. I reckon it would have been something worse, so you got lucky."
"I reckon it could have been too." Alrai teased, smirking slightly and walking towards the way she came. She hopped up the small slope that lead to the forests leafy floor. Poe followed her.
"Lets hope we don't get back to late." he said sternly. "I don't need to get punished, and neither do you."
"General Organa wouldn't punish her best pilot." Alrai said, her voice calm and full of assurence, nudging Poe in the arm.
"I don't know about that. She's been rough on me before."
"When? When she made you do a double patrol over the bases territory? That was cause she trusted you! Your our leader, man! Organa trusts no one more!"
"I suppose your right. Its an honor really." Poe's face went from serious to his usual smile, and he pointed to the thinning wood and the base where pilots were jogging and warming up, and people were scattered around, prepping for anything coming their way. "General Organa's outside assigning patrols. We're probably gonna be heading towards the south west quadrent."
"Doesn't matter where we go. Lets just hurry before we get double shifts." Alrai looked at Poe and picked up her speed to a brisk walk trying to get there before General Organa would notice the two of them were missing. As the pair haulded themselves haistily to the base, the first one they saw was General Organa, eyeing them with her cold old eyes, her grey hair tossing in the wind. Poe groaned. "Were in for it now, Alrai."
"Relax..." Alrai whispered, walking calmly toward her commander, Poe nervously following her.
" Poe Dameron, we need to speak." General Organa's eyes became stern and cold as Poe came up to her. "I expect more from you, Dameron. Not so much Miss Bastieleia. Miss Bastielia, I want a full patrol over the south east quadrent, and when you are done, a patrol around the north west territory. I shall expect you and your team back soon, but in the mean time, Dameron, I need to talk to you." That was all she said, and the old grey woman turned around without another word, gesturing for her pilot to follow her.
Without hesitating, Poe followed, looking at Alrai with a disapointed look. Alrai shrugged and frowned. Whatever Poe was in for, he probably didn't deserve it.
