Description My first sea serpent in a long time. I attempted the style of Bob Eggleton and I'm not sure if it worked, but I like it.

Ink and pastels on watercolor with a little help from some salt

It's amazing 0.0 Colors fit so well together, and colors you chose just give a nice feeling for it. And that serpent looks awesome.

the sea serpent looks amazing. It's a very successful piece. Your choice of colour and blending works so very well on this piece. It's wonderful

Thanks I have attempted to create another like it, but for some reason it ended up failing.
And I wasted more watercolor paper...

I really like this one, the only suggestion I can give is a bit more definition on the head.

I was wondering about that too. it was kind of hard to get the horse like head at ahat angle, but I have studdied up more on horses after I painted it. Hopefully my next seaserpent will be better.

Thanks! Well...the actual paint job was nothing special I think it's all the the different types of medium working together that makes it work.

I guess but you worked it

Nice job! I think you did great work with this. Watercolor is hard to control. My only wish would be to have more gradation in the water from the sky color. That would help flatten out the water somewhat. But your work here is excellent! I can see the Eggleton influence.

Yeah... the color didn't come out the way I wanted. My friend tried to work with the colors after it was scanned to try to get them to match the original, but it didn't quite work out right. But after learning how to work with watercolor, I love it Bob Eggleton is one of my favorite modern artists. Actually I only have a few favorites, so I guess I'm picky.

very pretty, i love your watercolor work, i can never get my washes so clean >.<
i love the far off harbor and the texture on the serpent's fins, but if theres one thing i could suggest is making him look a bit shinier in some plces, i know its a bit foggy, but some extra shine along the tops of the coils would look good

I never thought about that, but it makes sense. He is wet after all
I think I might do that when I get him home

Glad you like!

Wow, that's amazing! The colors in this look fantastic--it reminds me of some painting that was recovered from a sunken ship or something to that effect. The earthy tones work very well against the grey water; the details on the dragon itself is amazing.

wow! so ummm... wats the salt for?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wookieinmashoo In reply to alkr00 [2007-03-18 17:15:56 +0000 UTC]

I added the salt to the wet watercolor. The salt, depending on the wtness of the watercolor will give it different speckle effects. It's just hard brushing the salt off when the painting dries. I was supposed to use rock salt, but I didn't have any.

Glad you like him
