# About me

Michael Foley is a freelance artist whose work shows nationally and internationally. An Independent comic creator, and an art teacher who has taught various workshops,
private instruction and academic teaching.

Michael's works are deceptively layered. Hidden underneath the saturated colors and cartoon-like imagery you find mature works looking deeply into the human condition.
Questioning various aspects of our society, challenging these norms while attempting to create work that appears light-hearted on first viewing. These works often
deal with issues of insecurity, loss, betrayal, rejection and hope. Often told through a sardonic narrative.

Michael Foley is available for commissioned works, private tutoring, workshops, live painting events, set painting, mural work and various public art projects.

Hey... I hope you don't mind me asking, but how does 2 buck tuesday work? I was thinking about maybe showing up and selling some 2 dollar art there.

Do you have to contact Kaleid and let them know first? Do you have to set up your own table? How much does the gallery take?

:< I don't know much 'bout galleries in general.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

michaelfoley In reply to Sakaryn [2011-04-28 06:53:23 +0000 UTC]

not at all, I am one of the main board members for Two Buck tuesday Two Buck Tuesday happens on the third tuesday of each month (excluding January and July). Artists are encouraged to come down the night of the event to draw, sketch, paint. We have a table in place for artists to sketch and it is a great way for artists to meet one another and network. If you would like to paint we do ask that you bring a drop cloth and your easel pus supplies.
As for selling Two dollar art. The general rule for two buck art is that is is 4x6" max in size. Artists can drop off their two Buck submissions anytime. If we receive them the friday before two buck tuesday then there is a high likely hood the piece will end up on the two buck boards which we place in the gallery windows through the weekend till we open again on that tuesday. Label your name and contact information on the back of the pieces clearly this is a way for the buyer to reach you directly if they happen to want to buy more art from you .
Regarding sales. 100% of the sales go to the artists. The sales are always tallied before the following two Buck Tuesday and cash is placed in a envelope with your name on it (another reason to clearly write you contact information behind the pieces) and will be available that day.
Actually just sent out the call for art just a short while ago, so I'm adding it for ya

Show, Demo, Sell Your Art at Two Buck Tuesdays at KALEID!

Hi there! You are invited to be a part of KALEID Gallery's Two Buck Tuesday event! Two Buck Tuesday is a monthly (3rd Tuesday of every month) $2 art sale and artist/quirky people get-together with music, live art, open sketching table, demos, performances, informal speakers and other artsy happenings! It's free and all-ages!

The nextt event is May 17th from 7-10 pm
KALEID Gallery
88 S. 4th St. ste 130 (next to Flames Restaurant)
San Jose, CA 95112
www.kaleidgallery.com

-We're looking for artists who would like to come out and paint/create live. Set up your easel and let people see you at work! You'd be welcome to bring a small table to sell your artwork.
-We are especially interested in anyone who would like to do a demo especially something interactive. It would be okay to have a small fee if you help a person make something they can take home with them.
-We're also looking for performers-musicians, puppeteers, actors, comedians, jugglers, dancers, etc.

If you are interested (or know someone who is) just send me an email and let me know what you'd like to do!
Also include a link to your website/facebook if you would like us to promote you as a part of the event.

If you are painting, please remember to bring a dropcloth to put under your workspace.
If you are selling anything please be prepared to handle your own sales (bring change). The gallery does not take any commission on sales you make at your table.

PLEASE bring your own table and chairs and any other supplies you need, we don't have enough for everyone. If you need power, please let us know ahead of time!

It's a great idea to have a little sign with your name or what you are demonstrating and prices (if any).
We do not charge anyone to be a part of Two Buck. It's all about you sharing what you do and having a great time!

If you would like to make artwork for the $2 sale, bring us as many pieces as you would like that are 4"x6" or smaller with your name (and website if you like) on the back.

Bring it to us by the Saturday before a Two Buck Tuesday to be a part of the upcoming event. We handle the 2 buck sales so you can submit artwork for the sale even if you can't be there for the event. You can pick up your sales money (again the gallery takes no commission) at the next month's event, just ask at the front desk.

Thanks so much for taking the time to consider sharing your talents with us!

Please email me or info@KALEIDGallery.com if you're interested!
