Description

As Auto spun, he shifted the center of the artificial gravity onboard the Axiom. The Axiom started to list, and then tilt, causing Wall.e and E.v.e. to sideswipe the holodetector before they could get the plant into the detector. Wall.e accidentally dropped the plant, and E.v.e. accidentally dropped Wall.e, who stayed by the holo-detector as the ship tilted. The plant began to slide away from the holo-detector, falling off the platform which it stood on. E.v.e. flew after the plant, trying to grab it and bring it back, while Wall.e waited and watched nervously. E.v.e. watched in horror as the plant was suddenly swept away by a distressed passenger sliding towards the side of the ship. The passengers began trying to help stop each other from sliding towards the side of the deck and piling up, offering everything they could from bare hands to food smoothie straws. It worked about as well as anyone would expect- while some people were able to hold on to any platform they could, most people ended up at the side of the ship... and the plant ended up buried among them. E.v.e. flew straight to the side of the lido deck and began searching frantically for the plant as people continued to pile up on the side of the ship. Meanwhile, Auto began frantically trying to close the Holo-Detector, hammering repeatedly on the holo-detector control button. The people mover suddenly fell off its track, and slid towards the other side of the Lido deck, forcing E.v.e. to abandon the search for the plant and ram into the people mover, slowing it to a stop, and bracing it to prevent it from crushing the passengers against the side of the deck.

The holo-detector began rapidly trying to close and reopen, and Wall.e noticed, concerned as the holo-detector began pivoting up and down in its socket. She then got an idea, walked right up to the holo-detector, and wedged herself beneath it, forcing the detector to stay open even as Auto tried to make it close. Finally, Auto let off the detector control, watching via holo-projection as the detector began to close... and suddenly jammed in a half open position. Auto, shocked, switched cameras, and saw to his horror- a live feed of Wall.e actively holding the holo-detector open, and defiantly smiling at the camera. Wall.e's furious- seemingly unhinged- grin unsettled Auto almost as much as the mere sight of Wall.e holding the holo-detector open. Behind him, Captain McCrea began to work up the strength to stand up and go on the offensive, bracing himself against the floor with his arms as he began to find purchase on the floor with his feet. On the Lido deck, Wall.e held the detector open for as long as she could, waiting for someone- anyone- to take action and get the plant to the holo-detector or else shut the Autopilot down. That action would come too late- Wall.e's feet suddenly slipped, and she fell into the Holo-Detector, screaming, "EEEEE.V.AAAAA.!" at the top of her lungs as she fell in, and the holo-detector slammed down on top of her, brutally crushing her and jamming the holo-detector in a half open position.

On the feed, Auto watched in horror as the Holo-Detector jammed into a half open position, and failed to notice the bolt of lightning that fired from the holo-detector just after Wall.e was crushed by it. The bolt fired straight at the bridge, by chance blasting a panel that had been removed to expose the underlying circuitry, sending a massive electrical surge into the bridges machinery. The surge electrocuted Auto where he hung, dazing the ship's wheel, and leaving him hanging limp from the ceiling. The surge dissipated into the computer mainframe, and Captain McCrea, who was by now standing on his own two feet, seized the opportunity. He snuck behind Auto, and then got his attention with a sufficiently loud, "Auto?!?" Auto lunged at Captain McCrea, who grabbed his two remaining spokes, and pinned the wheel into the computer console. McCrea then noticed that the surge had cause Autos switch to flip open, revealing that he could be deactivated. McCrea reached up towards the switch, declaring, "Auto, You Are Relieved Of Duty!" Auto gasped, "Nooo..." as his power cell and AI core shut off, and his eye dimmed and faded out. His casing opened up slightly, and Captain McCrea reset the Axioms artificial gravity, righting the tilted spacecraft, and allowing the passengers and E.v.e. to move away from the side of the Lido deck.

E.v.e. flew straight towards the holo-detector, shouting, "Plant! Plaaant!" at the tops of her lungs. She then started trying to pull the Holo-Detector open with her own bare hands, still screaming, "Plant! PLAAANT!" The passengers now began to search for the plant which E.v.e. so desperately needed, and the rejects began searching as well. It was MO who found the plant- his sensors were built to detect foreign contaminants, and the plant had plenty of those. He triumphantly held the plant up on his roller, shouting, "E.V.A.!" The passengers, rejects, and slugcats now formed a chain and began passing the plant between them, the last one throwing the plant towards the holo-detector. E.v.e. caught the plant, and placed it in the scanner, which activated and confirmed the plant's origin. As the detector opened back up, Wall.e's crushed and broken body flopped out of one side, paint scraping off of her now dented and warped armor, and blood spilling out of her wounds. E.v.e. screamed, "WALL.EEE!", and the passengers all gasped in horror, and then bowed their heads. Captain McCrea respectfully tipped his hat to Wall.e's remains, which now lay, seemingly lifeless on the deck below the bridge. E.v.e. howled in despair, and then knelt down next to Wall.e's body, and began sobbing into Wall.e's chest as the computer continued to count down in the background. MO buried his head in his roller and started sobbing as well, and the rejects began collectively howling in distress. Wall.es slugcats scrambled up the holo-detectors podium and gathered around Wall.e, singing a slugcat chorus of mourning as the Axiom went into a hyperjump back to Earth.
