Description Something to relax for the night. Been hearing Christopher Tin's new album built around water journeying through its cycle on earth.

Influenced by the songs and a recent study of Japanese toriis.

It's quite simple but still very appealing!

Thank you

I was experimenting with limited color palettes for this piece

A very beautiful and atmospheric piece, and that with such simplicity. You show very nicely how it doesn't take much to create an eye-catching and interesting piece!
I particularly like the powdery effect of the snow on the peaks; it creates a great feeling of movement and wind!
There's three small things I could suggest to improve this even further:
a) On the sunny side of the mountains it would look great to add highlights also on the rocky parts. That unifies the flow between snow and rock and grants a bit more three-dimensionality. Currently the rocky part feels a tad flat in comparison to the peaks.
b) An extra layer of background to create better depth and thus an even more eye-catching effect. Just another faded mountainline between the foreground one and the one in the far background could help a great deal.
c) Lighten up the water towards the front left to get a bit of a sunny effect there too. It doesn't have to be a big area, just a few highlights that will implement the water more into the rest of the painting.

I hope this helped you a little and keep up the amazing work!

Thank you for the suggestions ValaSedai

I see what you mean about the mountains. It didn't get the same lighting treatment as the snow tops. I'll keep that in mind for future environment pieces.

There is a huge mountain behind the middle-ground peaks traversing the piece diagonally. Though the light colors and lack of detail may make it seem more as a sky color rather than a mountain. Perhaps bringing more middle-ground color strength would have made it more evident. Was this the layer you were referring to, or would it be a third layer, behind the big mountain?

At first I would say the graphic nature of the piece over a realistic approach would make the lighting of the water something strange for the visual simplicity and attracting attention to a less important part of the scene (The piece was designed with visual asymmetry in mind). In retrospective, that trade-off would indeed have helped a better understanding of the sea plane. Right now it looks a bit too flat. A light nuance might help bring that dimensional feel back. I'll be experimenting on that suggestion and see how the piece works out

Thanks again for the pointers
