Description A little something I did in the middle of finals storm.

I had this model since at least November 2013, when a new shopping mall, City Center* was opened in Poznan. In one of the toy shops, I've found a collection of Revell's 1/144 World War II aircraft, so I got a Spitfire to see how these kits look like.

Sadly, not very promising. Apparently the forms date back to the 1980s, an you can see it right after opening the box. There's a lot of flash here and there, and once you start the assembly you'll discover that the parts are not particularly well-fitted (although it still seems to be one of the best models from that series). On the upside, the decals were rather good, although they tend to silver a bit.

Because of that poor fit of the parts, I've put the model aside, and for quite a long time it served as a base to test the paints before putting them on the actual model. In some places, the paint was five to six layers thick before I decided to wash it and see if I can save it. Once I employed some putty, the kit started to look quite decent. Of course nothing that I'd put on a contest, but it looked well enough to consider finishing it. And so one day I painted it, placed decals on it, and today I've made some last adjustments. Now, of course you can see some horrible faults around the canopy and the wing-to-hull area, but given how badly this thing looked without any paintjob or putty, I still consider it quite nice.

Can I recommend this kit? Well, it depends. First-timers may be either put off by the poor fit or satisfied with the kit's simplicity. Oldtimers may be discouraged by the same thing, or delighted by the soft material that helps in modifying the kit. Anyway, if you want something small to put it on your desk, or install on your car's dashboard as a mascot, Spitfire might be just the right thing.

I considered putting it on my shelf next to my 1/72 Spitfire... but over the time it grew to be a sort of lucky charm, as well as my "co-pilot" (you know, the stuff you put next to your PC when you're playing), so I'll be taking it back to Poznan

*The shopping mall was widely criticised as being too big in comparison to the tiny train and bus station adjacent to them. After a large portion of the ceiling collapsed in April 2014, it was nicknamed "Sh*tty Center" instead.
