Pippi Longstocking is my favorite superheroine, one of the best.

I love the original books the best, all three of them. (PIPPI LONGSTOCKING, PIPPI GOES ON BOARD, and PIPPI IN THE SOUTH SEAS.) They were a lot of fun to read, and are just as compelling as any comic-book or cartoon series! (Hayao Miyazaki was going to make one, but permission was denied by the licensors. I would've loved to see what he would have done!)

The best adaptation was the 1969 TV series with Inger Nilsson. But I did also enjoy the 1988 movie with Tami Erin (despite the liberties taken with the source material). A 1961 episode of THE SHIRLEY TEMPLE SHOW/SHIRLEY TEMPLE's STORYBOOK, starring Mousketeer Gina Gillespie as Pippi, is also recommendable! (And is also historically important, as it was the first Pippi adaptation done in color, first done in the US, and the first to cast a child actress in the title role!)

YUS. I heard. Mr. Miyazaki would have done it justice. T_T

And yes again, I quite agree.
Inger Nilsson easily portrayed the best Pippi.
I kinda despised the Tami Erin one, but that's just me. ><

My second favorite it the Canadian animated film,
it has awesome musical numbers that IMHO capture the feel of the books very well.

I didn't see the Shirley Temple one tho...
Or the Russian one...

Interesting that some people - other than me, that is - like the Canadian animated film, as it was heavily suggested by supposed "purists" that even Astrid Lindgren herself didn't like the cartoon version. Then again, everything was always being compared to the Inger Nilsson version, which was Astrid's favorite, since she was personally involved with it, unlike the other incarnations, in which she was only given author's credit. Still, I think the songs and Melissa Altro as Pippi carried the cartoon, anyway.

Regarding Tami Erin though, although I was raised on the 1988 film and enjoyed it, it is sad to see that the 80's generation Pippi has fallen on hard times so much that she has to fight her vengeful ex-boyfriend and basically sell a sex tape that she didn't want seen (the said former beau was using Tami's past fame to bootleg the video, but Tami now is trying to basically give out legit copies so that the whole matter is out in the open and most likely so that she'll get some residual money out of the whole mess), even if it makes her - and her incarnation of Pippi - look bad, since all the media sees out of her when reporters covered the subject is that "OMG! Pippi Longstocking made a sex tape!" when Tami Erin as an adult shouldn't be trying to ride off the success of a younger version of herself, since she is no longer the innocent she once was. Certainly gives double meaning to the 1988 film's theme song, Pippi Longstocking is Coming Into Your Town [ www.youtube.com/watch?v=drR0Qk… .

Try to use some empathy,
how would you feel if I went and commented on every single one of your works,
from chapters to poems, and said, "Nice!"
Just "Nice!", nothing longer, nothing shorter.
Almost the exact same comment copy-pasted across your whole gallery.

Sorry if I seem harsh, this has been rattling around my skull for a while now.
