INFO ABOUT THE ANIMAL:

Name: Arctic Wolf (Canis lupus arctos)
Location: Canadian Arctic and the northern parts of Greenland
Size: 1.8 m long, 79 cm high weight: 75 kg
Diet: Caribou, musk oxen, Arctic Hares, seals, ptarmigan, lemmings. Arctic wolves eat all their prey, also its bones and fur
Conservation status: common. They still live in the whole of its original range, because local conditions are too extreme for humans.
Interesting facts: mother gives birth to some 2-3 pups in May. Pups are born almost black – as they get older, colour of their fur turns to white. Adults are completely white, even in summer | arctic wolves live in the pack of some 7-10 members. Only alpha male and alpha female mate | arctic wolves have shorter ears and nose than other wolves species. They also have thicker fur, shorter legs | they do not run too fast, their advantage is persistence

arctic wolves are also in Alaska

woxys In reply to Aiguava [2010-10-03 19:53:52 +0000 UTC]

no, they are not arctic wolves, canis lupus arctos, do not live in Alaska

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aiguava In reply to woxys [2010-10-03 20:59:58 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they do. I've lived in Alaska for 8 years and I've seen loads of them. One even was in my friend's neighborhood and was getting into people's trash before they got relocated.

Your welcome for the research, you should do more so you can get your facts right before you post on a public forum ; )

woxys In reply to Aiguava [2010-10-03 23:43:58 +0000 UTC]

this is so funny! even this link ([link] ) which was sent by YOU, says, that canis lupus arctos lives in Canada and Greenland XD

so again, you are not right XD and it was you who posted this link XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

woxys In reply to Aiguava [2010-10-03 21:30:04 +0000 UTC]

they do not live in Alaska. I checked it before I posted those facts - I checked at least three oficial sources before.

Range of artic wolves: [link] [link] [link] (Greenland and northern Canadian COAST = far from Alaska), [link] (Greenland, Canada = again, FAR from Alaska)

And finally: [link] NOOOOOOOOOO Alaska. See?

Alaska: [link]

As you can see, those areas do NOT cover. Your own sources confirm, that Arctic wolves do NOT live in Alaska Alaska is also inhabited by humans - while arctic wolves inhabit areas, where humans do not live, because those conditions are too extreme for them. That's why those wolves are not endangered.

Result: Arctic wolf, Canis lupus arctos, does not live in Alaska

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Aiguava In reply to woxys [2010-10-03 22:51:16 +0000 UTC]

actually, your links DO say that wolves are in Alaska:

Current Wolf Population, Trend, Status
Number of gray wolves: Alaska, 8,000-11,000; 48 contiguous states, 5,500
Number of red wolves: 100
Population trend: Increasing
Legal status: Federal protection with some exceptions in most areas, state managed in Alaska

[link]

I just think it's really weird that there is so many wolves in Alaska and you for some reason want to say there aren't, lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

woxys In reply to Aiguava [2010-10-03 23:10:24 +0000 UTC]

check that link again XD SLOOOOOOWLY, please XD

It says, that there are

Number of gray wolves: Alaska, 8,000-11,000; 48 contiguous states, 5,500
Number of red wolves: 100
Population trend: Increasing
Legal status: Federal protection with some exceptions in most areas, state managed in Alaska

BUT

From those 8 - 11 000 wolves, those are for example The Rocky Mountain wolf (Canis lupus occidentalis) XD

But

NOT ARCTIC WOLVES (Canis lupus arctos), because those wolves do NOT live in Alaska XD their range is here: [link] does it include Alaska? No! It does not! XD

I hope that you already got that XD omg XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aiguava In reply to woxys [2010-10-03 23:20:47 +0000 UTC]

It says gray wolves because Arctic wolves are the same species.

And I obviously am looking at the links, but I'm not sure you are, because I keep finding proof that arctic wolves DO live in Alaska. lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

woxys In reply to Aiguava [2010-10-03 23:35:47 +0000 UTC]

just educate yourself, accept the fact, that my info about canis lupus arctos is right (because it IS right) and next time better find the reality out before trying to spread false info

I am blocking you, because I need to study now. I might unblock you later to give you the chance to confess your mistake

and once more: Gray wolf's subspecies called Arctic wolf (Canis lupus arctos) does not live in Alaska and all the sources confirm this info.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

woxys In reply to Aiguava [2010-10-03 23:26:47 +0000 UTC]

ok. You obviously do not understand basic facts about animals.

Gray wolf has many subspecies. For example Eurasian wolf. If I followed your logic, Eurasian wolves would live in Alaska, because they are gray wolves XD

No.

Once more.

Gray wolf has many subspecies. For example Eurasian wolf, who lives in Europe and Asia. For example Timber wolf, which lives in Alaska. For example arctic wolf (Canis lupus arctos), which lives in Canada and Greenland, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT in Alaska.

Get it?

JEZUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Of course, that there ARE wolves in Alaska.

But there are NOT ARCTIC WOLVES XD XD XD check the maps of the range of artic wolves. NONE of them includes Alaska.
