Description Had a sudden urge to draw the Alfetta last night. 15-20 mins; pen, marker and gauche; no reference.

You can probably see the beginnings of a Lancer in the background, but I buggered it up. Plus the interweb was out and I didn't have a pic handy of 's new light setup.

I see the category as anime/manga at top, but I love the old style comic feel

Cheers mate, especially for the fav.
Heh yeah, figured I should go with "anime/manga" since that's the style I usually draw in (through no concious fault of my own I should add)

I really need to start using markers properly again.

Love how its comic book style, very intense! Alfas are very sexy cars, I can't wait for their return to the USA! I'm looking at getting a 1984 Spyder, I hope I can get it!

For no ref, the Alfa turned out fantastic! Great work!

They are indeed. Word of advice on the Spyder... if you have the cash, make sure the crank casting plugs are tapped in. The engines have a tendancy to throw them, resulting in low oil pressure. It's not a fun (or cheap) experience getting them replaced

As for the ref... I've got a resonable idea of how that car goes together

Oh, before I buy it the guy is rebuilding the car and fixing everything, paint and top and all.

being able to draw a perspective car within 20 mnt without reference, that's nuts you must've adore that alfa so much for a very long time

Well, my family's had Alfas since I was born. This one I've had for about 2 1/2 years now and I love it to bits, so yeah, I've had some practice drawing it That said I can never remember for the life of me if the side repeater goes ahead or behind the front wheel arch

Cheers mate

That took you 15-20 mins? That would take me wayyy longer. Guess it goes to show how good you can get if you practice.

I think using a pen all the time helps a bit. Forces you to learn how to place lines where you want them, or at least how to disguise the ones in the wrong place

Totally right. I'm starting to practice that now, actually.

SoraNoMiki In reply to wraith11 [2007-12-04 16:55:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that might have something to do with it. That and you understand cars. I really don't, so I'm afraid unless I got a reference for every little part of a car in front of my face, any attempt would be dreadful.

...it's a good way of neutralizing the balance between understeer and oversteer... so does that make it three wheel drift?

Yeah, I want those too!

Btw, I'll have some new lights soon... put in an order for a Hella Halogen H4 conversion kit to replace the sealed beam head lamps (want to keep the originals to preserve them) They'll come with proper old-school yellowish All Weather H4's and they have a built in park light assy. that lights up a small arc on the bottom of the lens kinda like the new BMW "angel eyes" only Old-school ... I feel like I've set some money on fire though

Aikurisu [2007-11-30 06:05:17 +0000 UTC]

Nice perspective as always, mate. The sketchiness is hard to recognise certain things, but that's Nat out the window with a machinegun, right? Reminds me of that early car chase scene from Castle of Cogliostro.

Also, no reference? Damn. Your visual memory of mechanics like that is impressive by all means.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wraith11 In reply to Aikurisu [2007-11-30 11:48:12 +0000 UTC]

Yep, that's Nat... and that was an awesome car chase

As for mechanics memory... I see the car every day, eventually you remember things (though I think I've put the side-repeaters in the wrong place... again )

Your sketch style is very fitting for this scene. Panoramic background, along with lines for motion reference and the other car (Lancer right?) emerging behind the Alfetta definitely conveys the sense of motion.

Would love to see it finished, with all the detail, gunfire, etc.

Is it me, or is the Alfetta chasing somebody down in a mall parking lot?

Nat+P-90+Wes+Alfetta = move over Fast and the Furious, the B.A.D. is in town!

wraith11 In reply to spectrelead [2007-11-30 11:46:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, namely this [link] Lancer. It's been awhile since I drew the two cars together.

Not really a mall, I was thinking more a sliproad or highway off-ramp

spectrelead In reply to wraith11 [2007-11-30 12:10:20 +0000 UTC]

Rough and tumble model. Rugged and hard to damage, saw an accident once that had a Lancer vs. a Toyota Altis, the Altis got its whole front caved in while the Lancer just had a busted headlight, LOL. They don't make `em like they used to.

Ah, all right, hope to see the final product.

Heh, I toyed with using some gauche to put some fire coming from the P90, but it would've obscured too much of Nat's face. Maybe next time
