Description Ok, if anyone's interested, this is what I'm doing for uni at the moment.... lots of marker drawing. I have to do 160 of these, or 39 A2 pages with 6-8 rendered drawings per page. Then I got to do the same thing for another assignment as well. Whoopie. It would kinda help if I had any ability to use markers as well

Anyways, figured the only way to stop myself from going crazy was to draw "products" which were of interest to me. And since we get higher marks for more "complex" forms, a scooter seemed like a good starting point. Well the rest was history. So here's the Vespa 180 Super Sport from FLCL, repleat in Ducatti Racing Yellow

Unfortunately the page was far to big for my scanner, so I just put in what I could. I don't think the side of the engine is of much interest to many of you out there.

Anyways, crit, comments and chocolate always welcome.

Yep, it's a real scooter, Vespa 180 Super Sport, first Vespa to ever exceed 100kph.
There were only 38,000 made, so they're pretty hard to get hold of these days. Guess my intention of buying a Resto job one and doing it up myself could be a long way off

Trying... failing. Plus finding one in the condition I want could be more than a little tricky.

lol, dont hesitate to buy it in fair condition, a little extra money never hurt anything,
and besides, you gonna paint it like Haruko's Vespa?
just so you know, it doesnt fly!

wraith11 In reply to Realm-Of-The-Shadows [2006-05-28 04:36:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I wouldn't mind the engine being in bad condition, or even the paint. Just sorta prefer it to have all the parts and as little rust as possible.
I'd still prefer of that needs resto though, first 'cause I wouldn't feel right re-spraying a perfectly good one, and second 'cause most of my money goes on my "other" vehicle. So the scooter would have to be a long-term project, doing all the work myself to keep costs down. Just gotta find one now

Very nice... its cool to see some color work from ya! And good job on the highlights with the marker coloration.

I dig the lil Haruko in the background, heh, though she should be driving straight at ta-kun or something

Thanks mate. Chocolate is your friend. Plus it keeps the sugar levels up so you don't get a nasty case of QWERTY-itis

WTF??? "It would kinda help if I had any ability to use markers as well " .......

Now that I KNOW, you should color more. A lot more. All the f'kin time. You reading me??

And we've already discussed how spastically cool Fooly Cooly is, haven't we?

Hey, compare this to what some of the blokes on my course are cranking out, you'll understand what I mean.
If I had a larger pallet to work with I might. At the moment I've got two yellows, two blues, two greens a black and three cool greys, otherwise known as the bare minimum the Uni requires us to have. I need two reds as well, but at eight bucks a pen plus eighteen for a re-fill bottle, that won't be happening any time soon.

And yes, we have had that conversation before... Fooly Cooly = Totally Spaced. Gotta love it.

Thanks mate.

Have you been trying to make your kids watch Fooly Cooly before they're capable of handling it? (considering most adults probably aren't capable of handling it this may be a moot point).

We'll I've done it the other way around, anime only. I don't know what the manga is like, but the anime is spaced... totally spaced. It's like the creator said "I wonder how much crack I can take and still produce an anime?" seems to have worked a treat

I think your brain explodes if you try to make sense of it, or put anything in proper chronological order.
Mine did.

I was hoping the anime would make more sense. XD

Thanks mate, considering your marker work that means a lot.

It's an Industrial Design course. So designing anything from Black and Decker toasters to the inside of jets to car body shells and the like. Man, what's the point of dropping out just before the exam? You've been there that long you may as well stick it out till the end.

WES

nightmareprince In reply to wraith11 [2006-05-25 16:34:42 +0000 UTC]

that does sounds like a cool course thoughit sounds like it would end up being a bit to technical for me.
As for my mate he didn't really like his course but it didn't mean he ws crap at it so god knows why he left so late i mean get bored of a course 4 weeks in, leave then, get bored of a course stickit out and drop before an exam, thats bein a dumb @$$.
and it's very nice work, alotof people grab markers and think "FELTS!" and procede to waste them got a nice smooth looking colour goigng on oh what are the markers?

wraith11 In reply to nightmareprince [2006-05-25 23:41:18 +0000 UTC]

Pantone Trias. They're the one's the Uni told us to buy. Personally I think it was just a ploy to get us to give Eckersley's (the art store) more money 'cause they're expensive as all hell. Working on bleedproof as well, so there goes more precious cash down the drain

WES

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nightmareprince In reply to wraith11 [2006-05-26 07:37:45 +0000 UTC]

i work on bleed proof a4 paper BUT i got mine free when I baught my copic markers (they do alot of deals in there) ther eis no best markers though each artist will like one personal set but there artist who can aford to buy three different sets.
as for the bleed proof paper sometimes it isn't good. I have a blender pen and bleed proof stops pens bleeding, the blender pen BLEEDS THEM >.<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wraith11 In reply to nightmareprince [2006-05-26 08:06:26 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, blender pen. May invest in one of those. Yeah, we work on A2, pain in the proverbial to carry around with you (can't roll it) especially on a bus or train.

We get a 10% student discount... and it's still bloody expensive. Yeah, there is no best marker, everyone has different opinions. Not quite as many opinions though as when it comes to detali pens, or even worse the: whiteout pens vs. white Gel Pens vs. white gauche for doing highlights debate At least since they standardized the markers if you run out you can be almost garruenteed that you'll be able to borrow a similar shade or tone.

WES

nightmareprince In reply to wraith11 [2006-05-29 23:14:07 +0000 UTC]

wait this is reeeeal creepy but there is an art shop exactly the same here for our college! though we arne't told to go thre it has the best stuff, even with our 10% discount its so exspensive!
i've never been part of that debate seeingas I use white ink on copic markers what works ou well cause the copics soakin the white and it fades you can build up layers plus don't get a big fat defiante white mark but yeah alot of peple say copics because of the fame behind them and the other ones i can't remember but are because they are a bit cheaper but more or less are same quality think they even have three nibs to!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wraith11 In reply to nightmareprince [2006-05-30 11:03:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the three nib ones, those are the one's we're using. There's actually a few art shops around, but everyone goes to the same place 'cause it's a) closer and b) cheaper with a bigger range.

I'm liking the gauche at the moment, nice and flexible, how you mix it up will give differnt opacities and the like... I'm gonna shut up now, sounding a little too art nerdish for comfort

WES

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nightmareprince In reply to wraith11 [2006-05-30 11:22:56 +0000 UTC]

to art nerdish erm lets think CAR!! GUNS! P-90 that better hehehe we have a few art shops here but none sell the markers anywhere! just this placeso it does suck cause they could really charge anything but luckily don't BUT as more art shops open up there prices went down. One place called the works is like a discount outlet, buys in end of range art stuff and sells them dirt cheap! they rock but NO markers!

anyway erm yes BIKES with girls on in military... bikinis! yeah that's what we need
