Description I can't be the only one more than a little sad we never got a Susan/Ridcully team-up story, because that would have been epic.

Soundtrack whilst drawing was Two Steps from Hell

For those unfamiliar with the Discworld series: Mustrum Ridcully (DThau, DM, BS, DMn, DG, DD, DMPhil, DMS, DCM, DW & BElL) is the archchancellor of Unseen University, premier school of magic on the Disc, having been brought in on the thought that having a quiet, gentle, country wizard in charge would be agreeable to everyone until they were ready to go back to the usual practice of promotion by filling dead men's shoes... often by emptying them of the previous incumbent first. Ridcully is a large, brusque, practical man, and fits into the quiet halls of academia about as well as The Clash at a Chopin recital. On the upside, he has put a stop to the practice of advancement by assassination by the simple method of proving to be unkillable. He is known to sleep with two loaded crossbows by his bed, though his other habit of creeping up behind would-be assassins, shouting loudly at them and banging their head repeatedly in a door might have something to do with it as well. He is quite intelligent, but his intelligence is like a freight train: once it gets going it's quite difficult to get it to stop or change direction.

Susan Sto Helit's defining trait is perhaps that she is sensible. She's also no-nonsense and can always be counted upon to keep her head in a crisis, something she considers to be a character flaw. She's good with children, tending to treat them as small adults and, as of Thief of Time teaches primary school. Of course, when she's not moonlighting as an governess or educator, she's also the Granddaughter of Death. Her father was Death's apprentice, and her mother his adopted daughter, but genetics works strangely on the Disc, so while there's no direct blood line (difficult when one of the parties is a 7' tall skeleton) she's picked up a few family traits, such as the ability be invisible (or, at least, get people to not notice her), live outside of time, and walk through solid objects. She also has as an affinity for any sport involving hitting something hard with a stick. To her annoyance, as Death's only relative she occasionally gets dragged in to cover when he goes AWOL, or needs someone to deal with the problems he can't and thus, by default, is also expected to step up occasionally to help defend the Disc against whatever cosmic horror happens to be threatening it this week.

The two bounce off each other occasionally in the books, having first met when Ridcully invoked the Rite of AshkEnte, which summons Death (generally to be asked questions as he is professionally involved with just about everyone, eventually), and got Susan instead.

Susan, Ridcully, and the Discworld as a whole are, of course (c) the late, great, Terry Pratchett.

That would have been a hoot!  Kinda liked 'The Color of Magic' with David Jason.  Though I thought he was a little too old for the part, he played Rincewind well.  And I had a few giggles in hearing Dangermouse at times.  And your Ridcully looks just like me:  Shaggy beard and rough nose.  Had cancer surgery on mine about four years ago.

I'll admit I can't lay claim to this design for Ridcully. That honour goes to the great Paul Kidby.

But he does look good here.  And as I said earlier, he does look like me right now.

I have no knowledge of Discworld, but this piece makes me want to experience it...

Oh, the Discworld series are well worth looking up. I admittedly tend to gravitate to the ones which centre around Death (not so much Mort, but Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather, and Thief of Time) or the Watch. Most of it is generally good value though, albeit with the rises and dips in quality you'd expect across something in the order of 41 novels.

Discworld, that's something I haven't heard about for a while! I dig this so much. It's cool to see you draw this sort of thing once in a while.

I grew up on Discworld, especially on the audio books. I've started listening back through them (at least some of them) recently as they make good company on the highway.

Cheers mate, glad you like it.

Kind of a pity otherwise great job with this rather dynamic piece especially the pose and layout.
